Passed away on Thursday May 30, 2024 at Ed’s House in his 87th year.
Beloved husband and best friend of Joan (nee Bird) for 41 years. Loving father of Nancy
Barabas (Bert). Proud grandfather of Craig, Stacie and Sophie Barabas.
Born in Kirkland Lake, Ontario to Niko and Mary Prlja and into a strong Yugoslavian community who worked the mines. It wasn’t until he moved to the Toronto area at primary school age, where he and his sister Helen spoke their first English words. Toronto was his beloved city for many years, working in engineering, until he retired to Cobourg in 1997 where he had time to pursue his love of the arts, he came to love the Northumberland area, the local theatre and art groups. He was a great fan of Jazz, movies and Islay Scotch. He was predeceased by his parents and sister Helen Strilchuk.
The family would like to extend their most sincere thanks to Dr Cunningham who navigated George through the past few difficult years, and his amazing support team at Ed’s House.
There will be a cremation with private family arrangements. A celebration of life to be held at the Prlja home at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice or the Art Gallery of Northumberland.
