It is with great sadness the family announces the peaceful passing of Alexander (Alex) Condie of Cobourg, Ontario at 94 years of age, which occurred Sunday May 19, 2024, at the Northumberland Hills Hospital. Alex was the loving husband of Sue (Phyllis Margaret Tranter) Condie who passed away just a short fourteen months ago on March 9, 2023. Alex was born in Thornhill, Ontario on January 20, 1930 and was raised in Montreal. He was the son of the late John and Agnes (Brodie) Condie.
Alex and Sue met on a train ride to a Grey Cup game and that is where their love affair started. They wed shortly thereafter in 1957 in Montreal and Alex was welcomed into Sue’s family with open arms. Alex and Sue had 4 children, Alexander Condie (Antonia) of Whitby, Allyson Condie-Franklin (Keith) of Naples, Florida, Andrew Condie (Norah) of Toronto and Andrea Condie of Ottawa. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren, Alexander, Domenica, Austen, Branwen, and Camren, four Franklin step grandchildren Peter, Jessika, Josh, and Rachael, with one great granddaughter soon to arrive.
Alex and Sue spent most of their life in Montreal and enjoyed their summers at their cottage in Highgate Springs, Vermont. They moved to Toronto, and then retired in Cobourg in 1999.
They spent many winters in Florida, and had wonderful trips throughout Canada, the United States, the British Virgin Islands, England, and Scotland. Alex and Sue also attended many Tranter family reunions in Ontario, Quebec, Vermont, Nova Scotia and British Columbia. They always looked forward to catching up with their extended family and were the life of the party.
Alex and Sue will be remembered for the love they shared with everyone they touched and their zest for life. They loved like no other and embraced their family and life with passion, joy and care.
While we miss our Mom and Dad (Grannie and Grandpa), we are comforted that they are together again in heaven and reuniting with their family.
A private service was held for Alex on Tuesday, May 21st, 2024, at MacCoubrey Funeral Home in Cobourg.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Northumberland Hills Hospital Foundation.
Andrew, your brother Alex and your sisters. My heartfelt condolences on the loss of your father. May the ache in your heart be tempered by the thought that Alec and Sue are reunited for eternity.
To all of Alex and Sue family members, we are so very sorry to hear of Alex passing. Alex and Sue were our neighbours on Maher Cres., always meeting for a chat or a friendly wave. Barry and Helen
I express my sincere condolences. The Bible promises that your loved one will come to life again on a beautiful earth when death will be no more in John 5:28, 29, Revelation 21:4.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to all of the Condie family. Alex and Sue were a welcome addition to our neighbourhood. Alex would often pop up the driveway for a chit chat and always rolled the window down and shouted out a Hi and a wave coming or going off the crescent. It is comforting to know his passing was peaceful and that he and Sue are reunited again. Find comfort in your memories. Judy and Randy Jones
