It is with a mix of emotions that we announce the passing of Valerie Davies, who died peacefully at the Northumberland Hills Hospital, surrounded by her family.
Val was the beloved wife of the late Roy Davies, and mother of Jim Glover (Donna), Dave Glover (Sue), Bob Glover (Jen), Chris Glover (Kim), & Stephanie Glover (Shane). She was grandmother to Holly (Julien), Mandy, Kimberley, Ashley (Ryan), Christopher, the late David Glover, and Jessica Smith, and the great-grandmother to Isabella, Furie, Victoria, & Annabelle. Val will also be missed by her sisters Diana Schmitz (Doug), and Vicki Charron (Marc), and is predeceased by her parents Victor and Edith Otten, and siblings Janet Maracle, Martina Otten, & Bobby Otten. She will also be missed by her step-granddaughters Deavon, Patricia, Amanda, and Christina, along with their families, her many nieces, nephews, neighbours, and friends.
Born in Middlesex England, Val was very proud of her British heritage. Her family moved to Toronto as she was entering her teens, where she grew up and eventually started her own family. Val was very proud of her years of service at the TTC, and was a long-time member of the Royal Canadian Legion.
She was an avid collector of many things that piqued her interest. Her home was adorned with porcelain dolls, each telling a story or having a very personal connection to someone she loved. Her closets were a kaleidoscope of purses, clothing, kitchen gadgets, and other collectable items - a reflection of her love for collecting and SHOPPING! (who doesn’t love a good shopping day?) And, of course, her fascination with anything related to England and the Royal Family was evident in the treasures she gathered.
Val loved a good Agatha Christie mystery, Coronation Street, Hallmark movies, Women’s World magazines, and enjoyed watching tv series & movies of all kinds - especially if they were British!
While Val may have been perceived as a tough woman by some, those closest to her understand that beneath that tough exterior lay a woman with a deep sense of loyalty and to living life on her own terms. She held firm in her beliefs, and her tenacity challenged those around her to think critically and to stand up for what they believed in. She faced life with a unique spirit, finding meaning in the simple pleasures of collecting, and leaving us with a mosaic of memories.
Val was a force to be reckoned with, and will be greatly missed. Rest in peace, dear Val. May your collections and the memories they hold bring warmth to our hearts as we cherish the legacy you've left behind.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association in Val’s name.
Dear Dave and Sue: We are so very sorry to hear of Val's passing. Val absolutely held steadfast to her beliefs but was a kind soul who appreciated acts of kindness. Val often expressed how much she missed Roy. They are together now debating numerous topics in the ever after. We will miss you Val and are so deeply sorry for those left behind. Deepest sympathy, Larry, Constance and Grier
To the family Val certainly was all those things you wrote. But knowing her personally and most of her family I can honestly say she had a huge heart. The fun bickering we did was always a mood changer lol Together with her mom and dad here in the building it was never a dull moment. She was truly one of a kind. And her visits in salon made a boring day brighter lol. I will truly miss her. Thinking of the family I know and the family ones I'm familiar with. RIP Val
