Peter Koster

November 9, 1937 - February 14, 2024

Passed in peace at the age of 86 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Devoted husband of Evelyn. Loving father of Anne (Curtis) and Peter (Martha). Proud Opa of Joseph, Anthony, Elise, Emma and Declan.

He will be fondly remembered by his sisters Truus Velds (Steven 2003), the late Corry Koster, the late Henrica "Ricky" Blanken (Hans 1989) and brothers Kurt Koster (Sonja) and late Tony Koster (2001) (Norma). Further survived by many nieces and nephews.

Peter emigrated with his family from Holland as a child, settling in Grimsby with his five siblings. He met Evelyn at Cleveland’s House and married in 1962. A talented mechanic, Peter opened his own garage in Lakefield where he developed a stellar reputation for work ethic and respect for customers. His love for all things powered by engines extended to snowmobiles, taking Anne and Peter on thrilling rides with his snowmobile club, and of course motorhomes, which carried the family many times to their favourite vacations in the Florida Keys. Peter loved working with his hands, building a woodworking shop that was the envy of many. He shared his love for all things mechanical or electrical with young Peter, bonding over nighttime readings of the Canadian Tire catalogue. Peter’s off-hours were spent on home improvement projects, and he couldn’t resist upgrading Anne and Peter’s homes during every visit. His grandchildren will always treasure the handmade toys he made each of them, carved with love, devotion, and his initials.

Peter’s love for his family, and all things Dutch, was evident at the annual Koster Family Reunions. He took an active interest in the lives of his siblings, nieces, and nephews, and tried to never miss a weekly call with his sister Trix back home. We are so grateful to Kurt and Sonja for visiting Peter often over the past year, always bringing his favourite cookies.

The family offers deeply felt gratitude to the staff on Floor 3 at Parkland Retirement Home in Etobicoke, who made Peter feel safe and loved, and loved him in return.

A celebration of life will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, family and friends may choose to make a donation to Alzheimer’s Society of Toronto or The Terry Fox Foundation.
