Maurice Joseph Cardinal

February 5, 1929 - January 31, 2024

If you know Joe, you know he could grow.

Joe was a farmer’s farmer who could grow almost anything almost anywhere.

He was also an innovative rancher who tended flocks, hutches, and herds of cows, rabbits, chickens, ducks, geese, pigeons, horses, goats, and a few other creatures.

He also raised schools of fish in aquariums and backyard ponds. Joe was a conscientious steward of the earth who practiced natural old-style farming in a permaculture and regenerative agriculture way.

He was sometimes too loud, but mostly quiet and contemplative preferring to work in his fields and greenhouses over anything else in the world.

Maurice Joseph Cardinal (Joe) passed peacefully at Lakeridge Health Oshawa, on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, five days short of his 95th birthday.

Beloved husband of the late Doreen. Loving father of Maurice, Dwayne, Cal (Lorie Woods) and Rod (Kathy). He will also be sadly missed by his sisters, Elsa, Barbara, and Bubbles (Bob), plus his nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family. A cremation has taken place. In Joe’s honour, please donate generously to Seeds of Diversity https://seeds.ca/store/ so Joe’s legacy will grow forever. Plant something too, in his memory.

MESSAGES OF CONDOLENCE / DONATIONS

Eleanor Abramczyk - February 10, 2024

Joe and Doreen were my next door neighbour for many years. Doreen was the love of his life. Joe loved his green house, flower beds, lemon & pear trees, and the rabbits he raised. When they went shopping his dog would lay on my front lawn, stare at the corner and wait till they came home. That beautiful dog never liked the new dog house. Only wanted the old, beat-up one that was really old, so the new one went by-by. Condolences to his sons. God Bless.
