Clarence Philip Devereaux

August 28, 1950 - January 26, 2024

In the depths of sorrow, we gather to bid a tearful farewell to Clarence Philip Devereaux, a man who touched our lives with his love, kindness, and unwavering devotion. Born and raised in the beautiful land of Newfoundland. Predeceased by his parents Patrick and Elizabeth Devereaux. Predeceased by his brothers, Vincent, Hughie, Edward and Patrick Jr. as well as his sister Leona. Leaving to mourn George, Eugene (Kate), Isabelle, Mary-Anne (Monty), Hilda, Ida (Randy), Kathy (Ern). Also leaving behind so many nieces and nephews.

He was a devoted and loving husband to Elva, with whom he shared a blissful union for 53 precious years. Together, they embarked on a journey filled with love and laughter.

Clarence was a cherished father to his only child Corrie. Theirs was not just a father-son relationship, but a friendship that knew no bounds. For 30 years, they worked side by side, sharing not only their days but also their passions. Fishing, both on calm waters and under the icy embrace of winter, brought them immeasurable joy. The bond they shared was unbreakable, and being in each other's company was all that Clarence needed to find solace and happiness.

Yet, as fate would have it, the arrival of two beautiful granddaughters, Natalia and Briar, would steal Clarence's heart in a way he never thought possible. With just a simple phone call, he would eagerly rush to spend time with his precious girls. Hair and nails would be meticulously attended to, as he reveled in every moment spent with them. Pride radiated from his eyes as he witnessed their accomplishments, both big and small. Their love and admiration for their Papa were a testament to the incredible impact he had on their lives.

His relationship with his daughter-in-law Kristin, was nothing short of remarkable. A special bond was forged between them, one that held immeasurable trust and affection. Her gentle persuasion could convince him to do almost anything, and he would carry out her wishes with grace and love. His absence will leave an irreplaceable void in her heart, and she will forever cherish the memories they shared.

Clarence, our gentle giant, will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His love and kindness knew no bounds, and his presence brought warmth and light to every room he entered. Our hearts ache with the loss of this remarkable man, but we find peace in knowing that his legacy of love will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
We love you so much.
Xo

Clarence’s family would like to extend their thanks to Dr. Stratford, Dr. Knackstead and the dedicated nursing staff at Northumberland Hills Hospital. Special thanks and deep appreciation to Dr. Mule for his kindness and care for Clarence and the Devereaux family.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 30 from 12 – 2 p.m. at MacCoubrey Funeral Home (30 King St. E., Cobourg) with a private family graveside service to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Diabetes Canada.

Dear Corrie, Kristen, Nat. and Bri.. There is absolutely nothing I can say to ease your pain at this difficult time. Corrie, I know for fact how close you and your dad were. I know how much Unc worshipped his 2 beautiful grand daughters. I know the impact of emotions your family is going through. Corrie, there will be signs that will let you know he is by your side. The signs could be his cologne, a song, thought, a figure, shadows. You find something you lossed or able to walk over and pick it up. Trust me, when you go to bed he will visit you in your sleep. I know this to be fact and true. Embrace each other and talk about Unc. Keep him in your everyday life. He will be with you. Love you all.

Aunt Elva I am so sorry for your loss. There are no words that I can say that will ease your pain through this difficult time. My heart aches for you. All I can say is there will be signs that will let you know Unc is here in spirit not visible. It can be a song he hummed, a smell of his cologne, a shadow, a word and a thought. I know he is by your side right now and always will be. Take comfort in each other right now. Talk, talk, talk about Unc. Trust me. Surround your time with Corrie, Christen, Nat, and Bri. At night when you go to bed, Unc will come to you in your sleep. I found peaceful dreams that helped me through the lonely nights. I am here if you need me. God speed through this difficult time. Love you and wished I visit more than I did. That's my guilt now.
