Stanley Stoyan Mircheff

June 30, 1953 - January 24, 2024

Peacefully, on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at Sunnybrook Health Centre, in his 71st year. Beloved husband of Lelis Maria Correa Dutra. Loving step-father of Virginia (Gerardo) Coelho-Grade, Evangelina (Trevor Mercer) Maya Correa, Veronica Maya Correa and Giuliano (Ashley Neil) Maya. Dear brother of Nick (Deanna) Mircheff. Cherished uncle of David (Jennifer) Mircheff and Alexandra Mircheff. Stanley will be missed by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Cobourg Union Cemetery. Donations to the MS Society would be appreciated by the family.

Stanley was born in Toronto, Ontario to Louisa and Zivko Mircheff, who were born in Bulgaria. Stanley was very proud of his heritage and loved to share knowledge of his roots. A criminal lawyer by profession, he was passionate about law, history, art, politics, music and the environment.

Stanley was an exceptional human being with an insatiable passion for life. Despite his health challenges, his achievements were many throughout his life. All the while maintaining a positive attitude and encouraging others to do the same. He would always offer words of wisdom, guidance, and kindness to those who loved him.

“You have a duty (to yourself, to God) to be the best you can be. Try and fail. Try again and succeed. Self-confidence does not spontaneously generate. Dare to be great!” ~ Stanley

You dared to be great everyday, Stanley! We shall endeavour to follow your example.

Very sad to hear of the loss of our law school classmate. Stan and I last spend time together at the national criminal law conference in Halifax during the mid 1990s. He did not, would not, waver in speaking truth to power… A true advocate, courageous, a true friend!

Mary Murphy - February 4, 2024

I remember Stan from my early days of practicing criminal law in Toronto. He was always a pleasure to chat with and had a great sense of humour. I am sad to hear of his passing. He was truly an inspiration for all.

To Stan's family, I'm so very sorry to learn of your loss. Stan and I were in the same class at Dal, and I feel so lucky to have been his friend. More than anything, I remember his infectious smile and enthusiasm for life - for things big and small. Such a beautiful, one of a kind, loving guy. Joanne McKeough

Dear Lelis and family, my very deepest condolences to you all. I just learned of Stanley's passing on Sunday and was beyond heartbroken by the news. I've known Stanley since early childhood growing up together on Brooke Avenue in Toronto, going to school together in those early years, then also as young adults trying to find our way through those teenage years. He was my other brother. I have such fond memories of our summer holidays at Balm Beach when our families would be cottaging there at the same time. We shared many hours of side-splitting laughter but also many serious discussions of about our lives and what the future would hold for us. And in all those years I had never once seen him angry. Always steadfast, always on course, always there to truly listen. He took on challenges with a smile, a beyond positive outlook and a way to overcome...always half full, never half empty. But through all the years I knew Stanley one thought has remained constant in my mind and heart, that he was the most kindest, most selfless, most compassionate and gentlest of souls I will have had as a friend, it was a gift to have known him. He was my touchstone, I love you Stanley . Diana❤️

Pamela Webster - January 30, 2024

Such sad news. I too was a classmate of Stan’s at Dalhousie Law School. I recall he always had a smile for you…and perhaps a humorous comment. He was one of the good ones…gone too soon.

Mary MacDougall - January 29, 2024

My sincere condolences to you Lelis and your family. I have such wonderful memories of my times with Stan during my days in Toronto. He always gave such great advise and conducted his days with such courage. Stan will be missed by so many.

Elaine Pick - January 29, 2024

Dear Lelis and family, we are deeply saddened to learn of Stanley's passing. The St. Cyril days of past have come flooding back with wonderful memories and Stanley holds a special place in my heart for those memories. He was a remarkable and lovely man. As our paths continued to cross over the years his kindness never wavered. We will remember him with love❤️ . Memory is eternal. Elaine (Lenche) Pick

Jim & Christine Alousis - January 28, 2024

Our condolences to you Lelis & your family on the passing of Stanley. We knew Stan first from church, then with the dance group Selyani. We can say that on the trip to the Balkans in 1971, Stan & Danny were a duo to behold. Over the years we did not see Stan, but kept up with his news through Danny. Stan will be missed but will live on in our thoughts & memories.

Elizabeth Lazarow-Scott - January 28, 2024

To the family of Stan, Our condolences on Stan’s passing. It’s interesting how one remembers (and often looks up to) older people in their formative years. Stan was one of those people from our St Cyril days, the parish bonded us all. He too is especially remembered to us for taking generous amounts of time to support my late brother upon his MS diagnosis in 1991. This world needs more people like Stan. Rest easy, Elizabeth Lazarow-Scott

Chris and Karen MacDougall - January 27, 2024

Lelis and Family we are heartbroken with the death of Stanley. Please accept our sincere condolences. Stan will always be remembered for his strength, determination, courage and especially positivity in the face of adversity. I met Stan at Dalhousie in 1977. He walked with difficulty and often with a cane. By graduation time he walked with two canes. The night before graduation he shared with me how nervous he was and afraid that he might embarrass himself on the stage. Of course a wheelchair could be made available but he was having none of that. He was making it across that stage under his on steam and that was that. As he was struggling up those stairs to the stage I am sure I was as nervous as he was. Half way across the stage the entire audience rose to their feet for an extended standing ovation. Just a small glimpse of our Stanley. RIP my friend! You will be sorely missed but we are left with many fond memories. Chris and Karen MacDougall

Vicki will be arranging for a Mass for him, and we will be making a donation.

Stan … my “Go To” guy for advice… from common sense, to the most delicate and noble considerations. Wise beyond belief, and a Pillar of positive outlook, Never complaining about his own situations, instead, helping others cheerfully resolve our own… My condolences to your Family. Alive in our hearts forever Stan, We all Love You, Miss You.

We are sad to hear of Stanley's passing. We have known him from when we all danced together at Caravan at Sts Cyril & Methody! Always a very pleasant person. We travelled together with the dance group ( 18 of us) to the balkans in 1971 for a very pleasant month, may Stanley rest in peace.Бог да го прости. Вечна му памет.
