Richard Henry Moore

November 23, 1945 - January 18, 2024

It is with heavy hearts we share that Richard passed away quietly in his 79th year, at home in Cobourg on Thursday Jan 18th. Pre-deceased by his parents Arthur and Hilda Moore of England and survived by his brother Peter Moore, also predeceased by his beautiful wives; Dianah Ingold, Liz (Kennedy) Shaver & Leslie Dewar.
He will be forever & dearly missed by his stepdaughters Nancy Love of Toronto, Danielle Kennedy (Jim Adams) of Cobourg, Melissa & Michelle Kennedy of Ottawa, his loving companion Johan MacLean of Cobourg, her daughters Barbara Anne & Shona, his mother in law Nellie Shaver, family friends the Varley’s, Campbell’s and the Shaver family.
Richard arrived from Rugby England, and landed in Canada in 1969 to embark on what became his life long career at Ontario Hydro (OPG). He took great pride in his profession and was well respected by his peers and fellow engineers.
Richard truly enjoyed his retirement life after OPG, he never shied away from new experiences like fishing or duck hunting. Richard was beyond blessed with so many amazing and wonderful friends, which he considered to be family. His love for golf went to a “hole” new level as well as playing cards with friends, travelling, playing pool, getting into a tux, always taking time to have fun, enjoying the odd pint or glass of red, a Friday night dinner, a great steak accompanied by a good laugh.
He was an extremely intelligent man, always interested in building projects, sitting on the board at Dalewood, number crunching, helping out friends, and taking an active role on his condo board
Richard was a true gentleman, and that was evident every time he opened a door for someone or removed his hat before entering any building. Richard was blessed with 3 very special marriages. Each of these unique women brought him significant joy and happiness, in so many different ways. During this time in his life, which spanned over many years, he became stepfather, mentor and friend to Danielle, Melissa & Michelle, and later Nancy.
At the latter part of his life, he was then gifted with the companionship of Johan
There just aren’t enough words to describe the essence of Richard.
His “signature” was his deep blue eyes, charismatic personality, and very distinguished voice.
This world will miss this exceptional human being, as will we. A celebration of life will take place at Dalewood Golf and Country Club 7465 Dale Rd, Cobourg, ON K9A 4J7 Thursday, January 25, 2024 from 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM. The family will be sharing words or remembrance at 11:00AM. Cremation has taken place and an interment will take place in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation , Canadian Cancer Society or Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice Care Centre.

So sorry to hear this news. I only met Richard through being friends with Leslie. On our brief meeting he soon dispelled the myth of a “cool Brit” and his warmth, true interest in good conversation was evident, a true gentleman.

Lou Grande - January 24, 2024

I had the privilege of working in the design department for Richard while he was Engineering Manager at Darlington Generating Station. He was head and shoulder above his peers in moral leadership, technical knowledge and for the sincere empathy he had for anyone he interacted with. He was one of the few mangers who kept his technical knowledge sharp even though he was management. He'll be sadly missed. /Lou Grande
