Thomas Harvey Smith

September 12, 1941 - January 4, 2024

Passed peacefully at Kingston General Hospital on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at the age of 82. Loved father to Gary Smith and Brian (Angela) Smith. Loved brother to Corrie (Cliff) and brother-in-law to Edith. Pre-deceased by his parents William and Mable Smith as well as his siblings Bill and Margaret (Tom). He will be missed by his extended family and his many friends and neighbours. Tom was a private and independent man. He enjoyed caring for his green cheeked conure birds and was very fond of his fur-grandchildren Lily, Chloe and especially Lucy. Tom was a proud veteran with the Canadian Armed Forces. He and his family originated from Cobourg and Tom was stationed at several military bases, though mainly at CFB Trenton. After many dedicated years, he retired into a civilian role. Tom enjoyed a quiet life, seeing friends and family and working on his hobbies. His big smile will be very much missed by everyone who knew him. A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 20th, 2024 from 3:00 – 5:00 PM at MacCoubrey Funeral Home 30 King Street East, Cobourg, ON. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

I am so very sorry to hear of Tom’s passing. Tom was my neighbour at dialysis and we became fast friends. He always had many stories especially about his family and his feather babies. I will miss him and his shenanigans very much. Rest easy my friend. Debbie

GARRY TAYLOR - January 13, 2024

I had hoped now living some three hours from Cobourg to make an appearance at Tom's memorial service this afternoon to offer Tom's family my personal condolences. Our current weather travel advisory now renders that impossible. Tom, David Anderson and I comprised a trio of close personal friends during our teenage years. I remained in contact with Tom until he engaged with the RCAF. In December 2005 I somehow obtained Tom's mailing address and sent him a brief letter laying out what I had been engaged in during the intervening decades. In return Tom sent me greetings by way of a Christmas card. My personal condolences to Tom's family on this day of mourning, if possible I would like to be informed of Tom's place of internment. Garry

When a parent passes it is the most difficult of times. Although I never met Tom personally I heard Brian and Angela speak fondly of him on many occasions. As a close friend both Brian and Angela I sincerely offer my deepest thoughts and sincerest condolences. Comfort can be found in fond memories from over the years that cannot be erased over time. Ron

David Anderson - January 10, 2024

Condolences to Corrie, Gary, Brian and family. Tom was a very quiet guy, but a hell’ve a fastball pitcher. I have the twisted right hand fingers to prove it! Growing up in the West end of Cobourg, outdoor sports were the focal point of existence for kids of our generation. Road hockey and baseball. A great friend, he will be missed!

Tina Paulin - January 10, 2024

I have many fond memories of Tom. When I moved beside him in Kenron, I didn't get to meet him right away. Within a few months I got to meet him and over the years got to know him very well. He was caring and compassionate to everyone. We helped each other over the years. I will always hold a special spot in my heart for him and his feather babies. Rest in peace my friend until we meet again someday when my room is ready 💗🙏

My Condolences to Brian & Gary and family on the passing of your Dad. I have so many great memories of uncle tommy, from visiting in Petawawa to visiting the Trenton base and everything in between. To his surprise visit here to see the kids, and stories of his birds. Thanks for the memories and you will truly be missed.

Patricia Doktor - January 10, 2024

I enjoyed socializing with Tom on Christmas Eve. He was playing with the cats and had a big smile for them. I will remember that day fondly.
