After three years of challenging ALS, on Oct. 1, 2023, Kenneth Melvin “Ken” Reid quietly breathed his last. Ken was 76 years of age. His wife Kathy Reid (nee O'Brien) was by his side, hand in hand with her husband of 49 years. Ken was a loving father to Charlaine (Mark), Jeff (Emilie) and Graeme (Camila), and a cherished grandfather of Jeremy, Scott and Sofia. Ken will also be deeply missed by his siblings David (Betsy) and Doug (Althea), and his in-laws Marg & Dennis Olinik, Karen O'Brien and Lynn Elliott Pre- deceased by his parents Lloyd and Gladys Reid, his sister Shirley Elliott and his brother-in-law Allan O'Brien. Ken will be missed greatly by the many nieces, nephews and cousins of his extended family and friends. He was very involved with the Knights of Columbus, the Cobourg Soccer Club, the West Northumberland Curling Club, and with Kathy in Worldwide Marriage Encounter. Upon retirement from Ontario Power Generation (Bruce Nuclear and Darlington) in 2004, he and Kathy enjoyed traveling the world and spending time at their camp near Bruce Mines. A visitation will be held at MacCoubrey Funeral Home Friday, October 6, 2023 from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. A Funeral Mass will take place at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Cobourg, ON Saturday, October 7, 2023 at 11:00 AM followed by the burial at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Cobourg ON. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Michael’s Church, Sunnybrook Foundation ALS Clinic or Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice Care Centre. A Celebration of Life will take place October 22, from 1 to 4 PM at the Columbus Community Centre.

Dear Kathy, So sorry to hear about Ken's death. This has been a long journey for you both and your catholic faith and walk with Jesus has been such an inspiration to many. We have many fond memories together through Worldwide Marriage Encounter and especially remember our trip to Montreal to present a weekend. Dear Kathy: Even though we moved to Waterloo five years ago, our memories of you and Ken are still vivid in our minds. We have so many great memories of Ken, his smile, infectious laugh, and his genuine interest were evident, while tell us stories of the adventures they had had during their travels at our holiday dinners. One of my first memories of Ken was meeting him and his canoe at the family cottage on Wild Goose in Thunder Bay. He was a bright light gone way too soon.
