On August 31, 2023, Mary Randall (nee Cooper) took her final breath. Although she was known to be a very social person, always saying "hi" and "how are ya" to those in her community, she was also a woman of few words. And so, these final words that she left to us on her iPad were truly the very best.
“I love my family. Happy to see them. I just want a lovely day with them all. My lovely sister Sue. Thanks for coming over and taking care of me. My brothers David and John and all our family overseas. Love you all and I will see you in Heaven sometime. My lovely husband has been a brick. Hope you have happiness in life. Sorry for not being happy at the moment. Love you. Kirk, Donna, and Samantha my lovely children. And I hope that you all have a lovely life. Wish I was there to see you all grow up to be the amazing people you will be. Raquel Brody and Amelia. My lovely daughter-in-law Ari, Matthew my crazy son-in-law, and wonderful Brittany. So happy.”
Mom used to always impart on us that we need to see the good in people. She always wanted to help people, from volunteering at Horizons thrift shop to her daily interactions with her customers at No Frills (always holding up the express lane, lol), she could be a bright light on someone’s cloudy day. She will be forever missed. We would like to offer our sincerest thanks for all the care and support from ALS Canada, Dr. Bernard-Thompson, Dr. Zinman and team at Sunnybrook, and the nurses and staff at Ed’s House Hospice.
Many people are asking if they can help in any way. Did you know that hospice care is primarily funded through fundraising and donations?
In lieu of flowers, please kindly consider donating what you can to Ed’s House in Cobourg: https://edshouse.northumberlandhospice.ca/ways-to-give/
A Celebration of Life will be held in her honour at the Cobourg Legion (135 Orr Street), on Saturday September 30th from 1-3pm.

The Randall family, my heart goes out to you all. You have lost a great woman and a loving mother. I remember Mary from my childhood as you all lived across the road from us in Etobicoke. Tony, Kirk, Donna, and Sam, I want you to know how many fond memories I have of you all from my childhood days. Your mom was such a sweet soul. The saying is true 'you may not remember what a person said but you will remember how they made you feel.' Mary was such a special person in our lives as kids and I always looked forward to her coming around our home. She had a genuine and gentle energy. My deepest condolences to the family. She certainly left many imprints on the many chapters of your lives. Hugs, Valerie Di Paolo
