Upon moving to Cobourg 34 years ago last month, I had the pleasure of joining the Thursday evening model railroaders of which Jim was a member. I soon learned of Jim’s extraordinary skill level and his ability to solve virtually any model railroading dilemma through his resolve, patience and fastidious approach. Jim took more than his share when it came to those Thursday evening get-togethers and he and Joan never failed to make us all feel very welcome and you could always count on a nice treat to go along with your beverage. The passing years and Covid have pretty well ended those Thursday evening meetings and Saturday drives to some fairly distant train stores, I might add. However, my memories of Jim’s interest in what each of us was doing on our train layouts and willingness to help will never wane. My sincere condolences to Joan, Doug, David and their families.

Jim was a good friend. We shared a common interest in model trains. He was a wealth of knowledge and he was only too willing to share. Unfortunately the pandemic and ill health prevented us from getting together as we once did. He will be missed!

I'm deeply saddened to hear about the loss of a friend, fellow train enthusiast, and mentor in our core group of local Cobourg modelers. Jim was not just a remarkable craftsman but also an individual who generously shared his knowledge and skills. I was fortunate to benefit from many great gatherings in his basement - along with fellow friends- and having him share his hobby and listen to the rich history he liked to talk about. His presence will be sorely missed. My thoughts and condolences are with Joan and family during this difficult time.
