With heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Marilyn Mae McLean of Gores Landing, on August 11th, 2023. Marilyn was born on May 27th, 1955 to Peter and Thelma Verbrugge in Ridgetown, Ontario, the fifth of six children. Marilyn leaves behind son Peter (Suzanne), daughter Emily (James). She was the cherished Oma to Hunter, Chloe, Clara and Owen. She also leaves behind her siblings Jerry, Diane, Archie and many friends including her companion, Ronnie Linton. She was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Thelma, her dearly loved husband Alan McLean (1998), her beloved partner Douglas Cofell (2017) and her brothers Allan and Egbert Verbrugge (2023). Marilyn had a passion for life that sometimes included taking her hands-off and a love for horses that shaped much of her later years.
A celebration of life will be held at MacCoubrey Funeral Home Reception Centre on Thursday, August 31 from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. Cowboy attire and/or casual wear is encouraged.
She will be sorely missed and lovingly remembered. Those wishing may make a memorial donation to SARI Therapeutic Riding.

I rode with Marilyn. She was a full-gallop, vibrant gal. I'd rein in my horse, or tried, she'd give her horse his head. No holding back. Marilyn, may you ride fast.
Our hearts are breaking. I will never get over that Marilyn will not walk into my house again. There will never be a time that I trail ride that I will not think of you my friend. Takata, Abby and the Prez will be waiting for a pet and a ride when you arrive in heaven. We send our condolences to your family, to Peter and Emily especially. We shall see you again someday.

Marilyn was the last person I rode with; since then we've enjoyed many a porch visit at her farm or mine. We once camped together with our horses and despite sub-zero weather and layers of "eau de equine" she retained both her inner and outer beauty! She was adventurous and loved to dance. I was amazed by hers and Ronnie's willingness to try English Country Dancing...in her best western boots! I know how she missed her two- and four-legged loves who went before her so I hope she's enjoying a wonderful reunion. I miss her laugh, her spirit...and will treasure the fun we had together! Godspeed Marilyn – oh, and I know you'd appreciate, the western hat I plan to wear today was presented to my grandmother at the Calgary Stampede almost 100 years ago; when I steamed it back into shape, I could smell her perfume (and she departed 50 years ago!)
Marilyn was a lovely lady who rode often with my late husband Lantz. He enjoyed coaching her and encouraging her with her horses throughout many years. She always had a smile and kind word whenever she was at our farm. She will be greatly missed by many.
My deepest condolences to Marilyn's Family and closest friends My dearest friend... I shall miss you dearly. From our fun luncheons, our shopping sprees, and those deep spiritual discussions, you have been a wonderful part of my life. Shine your light to the heavens
She surely will be missed. We talked for hour or so about once a month. Please pass my condolences on to Ronnie. So nice for him to support Marilyn when Allan passed.
So sorry to hear of Marilyn's sudden passing. Our thoughts are with her family. Sincerely Eddie & Kathy Cikatricis
Girlfriend...I am so sorry I wasn't there. I am very grateful for our visit a month ago. Just like old times. Your perspective about life was so in line with mine. I enjoyed every moment we had and will cherish them forever. Our kayak rides on the lake..our time enjoying horses, drinking a new beverage, laughing...simple things. Sitting on your porch just being. I am so very happy that you found me all those years ago to help your daughter's sweet dog. We became friends during that process. We had so much in common. What a gift you were. My only regret...is that we didn't spend as much time together after I moved away..and .. that we didn't get another kayak ride together. You are with those you loved who passed before you. Give Doug and the Prez a hug for me.. Till we meet again ?
Ronnie and Marilyn’s family. So sorry for your tragic loss of a wonderful person. Shawn & Debbie
