It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Tom Wilson peacefully at Ed’s House, Cobourg at the age of 87.
Tom was the beloved husband of Anne for 62 years, loving father of Sally (Tom Ryall), George (Lori) and Bruce (Lee-Anne) and dear grandfather of Katie, Mark, Alison, Ella and Tavish.
Tom, the son of the late George and Mollie Wilson, was born in Birmingham, England. After his father’s death in 1939, Tom and his mother moved to the Borders of Scotland to stay with his paternal aunt, Chrissie, during the war. He attended Epsom College, Surrey then studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh, graduating in 1959. Tom was the president of the University Athletic Club (1958-1959) and was Captain (1957-1958) of the University squash team.
After practicing medicine in Scotland for several years, he emigrated to Canada in 1969 with his young family. He joined the practice of Drs. Leeson and Scott at the Cobourg Medical Centre where he was a physician for over 35 years.
An avid sportsman, Tom loved golfing, walking, cross-country skiing, squash and tennis. One of his great passions was for gardening; he took pride in his garden at our home on D’Arcy St. and had a particular fondness for the many trees he planted there and in his other gardens and for the ones he encountered on his frequent walks.
A celebration of Tom’s life will be held on Sunday August 20, 2023 at Dalewood Golf Club from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. A sharing of memories service will take place starting at 2:30 p.m.
The family would like to extend their most sincere gratitude to Dr. Emma Smith and the staff at both Northumberland Hills Hospital and Ed’s House whose kindness and dedication has not gone unnoticed.
If desired, donations to the Northumberland Hills Hospital Foundation and/or Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice, Cobourg in memory of Tom would be appreciated.
Visiting Mavis Peacock in West Kirby. We are sorry to hear of Tom’s passing. Mavis (Mollie’s niece) shares fond memories of Tom and his family. Sending love to you all.

A gentle man and a gentleman. Fond memories of coming over to Canada from England on my own as a 14-year-old, nearly 50 years ago, and introducing you to the The Wurzels, in turn having my first taste of McDonald's! We went on holiday to a lakeside location, where the cabin owner slipped and dislocated a finger. Luckily you were there, Uncle Tom, to pop it back into place. No fuss, no drama. We were so sorry to hear of Tom's death. Mike and I will always remember how kind he and Anne were when we arrived in Cobourg. they had a little house on Lakeshore and we were introduced to a tiny Bruce. Both Tom and Anne were anxious to make us feel at home. Their warmth touched us both. They even managed to include both my and Mike's parents in their dinner parties when our families were visiting from Wales. Tom was so proud of his garden at the house on D'Arcy St. Elegant, kind, a great gentleman he was also proud of being a doctor in a small community where he could make a difference in so many lives -and he did so without a doubt. He was highly respected. He and Anne will always be a part of our fondest memories. We and all our family extend our deepest sympathies to Anne, Sally, George, Bruce and their children. Tom was so proud of you all.
