It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Peter Dalglish in Grafton, Ontario in his ninetieth year.
Peter was the loving husband of Camilla (nee Weston) for 59 years, beloved father and best friend of Kim, Geordie (Swith) and Genevieve (predeceased). Known as “Pete” to his seven grandchildren: Sarah, Luke, Alexandra and Benjamin Abell; Louisa, Marigold and George Dalglish. He taught them to canoe, paint and love nature at his beloved cottage on Smoke Lake in Algonquin Park and at Strawberry Hill Farm near Grafton, Ontario.
In his younger years, Peter planted thousands of trees on his farm. He loved watching them grow. In later years he felt great pleasure seeing his black angus cows light up the green fields and he celebrated every calf that was born.
Peter attended Upper Canada College where he made life long friendships and The Ontario College of Art, a recipient of the French Governor’s Award for fine art.
Peter owned Ridpath’s Fine Furniture for forty years and The Grafton Village Inn for twenty-five years. He loved and supported the arts such as Opera Atelier, OCAD and was a member of the Art’s and Letters Club where he painted weekly.
Peter was a practicing Christian Scientist. He was a man of deep faith whose gentle spirit and warm personality touched all who knew him.
A celebration of Peter’s Life will be held at The Grafton Village Inn on Thursday, August 10 at 11am.

My deepest condolences. There is no word to express my deep sadness and regrets having recently read of his passing, and not having the last opportunity to say goodbye to a great friend. Truly, I will miss his presence, his stories, joie de vivre and his smiles. Have always admire his deep love for life, arts, nature and his family.
Our hearts go out to the entire Dalglish family with this sad news. Our families travelled across Kenya together in the 1985 and it was then that I learned to appreciate Peter as a kind and gentle soul who brought out the best in us. We remained friends since and he will be missed, although his memory will remain strong in our hearts. We are truly blessed to have known him and grateful for his presence in our lives.

I was so sad to hear of the passing of Peter. We have spent many wonderful years of Wednesdays together in our group painting on the third floor of The Arts and Letters Club of Toronto. Peter created many exciting painterly works in oil. And he was a warm, gentle, beautiful human being. Peter was a gentle and kind man who ALWAYS offered a welcoming smile. Although our encounters were mostly brief, they never felt estranged. I do hope there are more people like Peter Dalglish in our future. You will be remembered fondly by all who knew you, of that I am confident. The Board, senior management, staff, and volunteers of Royal Botanical Gardens (RBG) are deeply saddened by the news of Peter’s passing. Peter, along with his wife, Camilla, have been avid and passionate advocates of RBG’s programs, events, educational exhibitions, and environmental initiatives. Members of RBG for more than 35 years, Peter and Camilla have helped transform RBG through their support of the Camilla and Peter Dalglish Atrium and The Dalglish Family Foundation Courtyard at the Rock Garden.
