We have lost our storyteller and the centre of our family, John McKinley Glover.
John faced a series of health challenges over the past years with a positivity and an ability to “KBO” that only he could muster. He finally lost his battle on July 24th.
His family now imagines he is somewhere sipping beer with his beloved daughter Meredith, telling and retelling family stories until she rolls her eyes over his embarrassing details. No doubt he will tell of how very much he loved his wife, her mother, Ginny (Virginia Snyder) with his eyes sparkling when speaking of their first date on Valentine’s Day for he knew that in meeting and loving Ginny he became a better and gentler man. She was his all. His eyes would brighten again when telling Meredith stories of her sister, his daughter “Jules” (Julie Hope Lana), who was the centre of his soul. Perhaps, though, nothing would match how he’d beam when speaking of his grandsons, Max (Lanca) and Sam (Lanca). His pride and love for them will remain beyond match. They will always be the light of his life — he adored them both and he embraced the boys’ dad, Jean Lanca, not only as a son but also as a friend.
John, son of Allen and Doris Glover, was born in Lindsay and grew up in Sunderland, moving to Belleville in 1958. He attended Moira secondary school and graduated proudly with an engineering degree from Queens University. The Sunderland family unit was small. Uncle Keith Rynard and Aunt Iva (Glover Rynard) were very significant in his life. Cousins Joan Down, Bonnie Jackson, and Janice Osborne were loved as close friends who, along with fellow OPG cousin, Pam, were kept tightly in his information loop. John easily played big brother to his sister, Gwen, and brother, Dan, and it is certain they will miss him with a deep void in their lives. His nieces, Katherine and McKinley, and nephews, Sean and Graeme, will remember him as a caring and inspiring uncle. Sisters-in-law Maria Glover (Politano) and Marilyn Turney (Snyder), both intrinsic parts of his family, were loved dearly by him.
The family cannot begin to name and thank the many friends important to John. His hydro/OPG comrades remained part of his life as did his school chums and it is certain that his stories will be remembered by many, for years to come.
John was adored and cherished by his family and friends. He will be lovingly remembered as an honest, hardworking storyteller and the centre of his family.
Above all, John was an honourable man.
The family would like to extend their most sincere gratitude to Dr. Mule and the staff at the Northumberland Hills Hospital Palliative Care Unit. You provided comfort, care and compassion in one of the most difficult times of John’s life. Your kindness and dedication has not gone unnoticed.
A visitation will be held at MacCoubrey Funeral Home chapel 30 King St. E., Cobourg, ON, Friday, August 25, 2023 from 1:00 – 2:00PM followed by a Sharing of Memories Service by John’s family at 2:00 PM. Afterwards, friends and family will be invited to MacCoubrey Funeral Home Reception Lounge for a Celebration of John’s life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Northumberland Hills Hospital Palliative Care Unit or SickKids Foundation.

We were so sorry to hear of John's passing. John was an amazing mentor and left a huge legacy here at OPG. He always led with kindness, humour and humility, doing what was right, not what was easy. I know he was pleased to see all the new nuclear being built and potential for refurbishment at Pickering. None of this would be possible without the strong legacy left by John and others. Our condolences to you and the family during this difficult time.
To Ginny and family, please accept my sincere condolences on John's passing. He was a man of honor, integrity, and compassion! His leadership motivated me to go beyond the call of duty during the Pickering restart program. Our association continued long after his retirement and always look forward to his retelling of his many experiences. May his Soul rest in peace.

A good friend and workmate for over 45 years, always been there for us, no more. Always in my heart. Helped me in so many ways with his loyalty and generous heart. Elaine will miss the ritual of exchanging birthday, but it will ways be in our calendar.
To Ginny and all of John’s family, my deep condolences in your time of loss. John has been a kind and generous neighbour for my decade in Ryerson Commons, and put a lot of conscientious effort into his years on the condo board - a mostly thankless job and I thank him for a job well done! John and Ginny entertained and loved to be entertained at events on our lane, cocktails on the rocks in summer and various food-and-drink events indoors. I will miss you John - God give you wings. Very sad to hear the news of Johns passing. I’ve known John for fifty years meeting him at Lennox G.S. In 1973. He was a true friend, mentor and boss. Always had a story, joke, smile and was a fine gentleman! Later on when John married Ginny he talked nonstop about her and her daughters. My heart goes out to his entire family as his passing is a huge loss to many. 🤗
So very sorry to hear of John's passing. I worked with John many years ago at OPG. He once saved be by guiding me down a ski slope I should never have been on in the first place. Always kind. My deepest condolences.

So sorry to hear of John's passing. As already said John was a "stand up guy". He was a great work associate and friend. He was particularly strong when things did not go well. We are at a loss.

We have lost a friend, entertainer and historian of our time at Hydro/OPG. John saw the best in people and circumstances and never complained about either. He showed the same traits in spades dealing with his many health problems. John will be sorely missed by his many friends and will be remembered fondly.

Dear Ginny and family - I was saddened to hear the news of John's passing. Although we met late in life (at the gym), he was always an inspiration with his KBO attitude! I will miss his friendship, his love of family and his infectious smile.
As a former workmate and lifelong friend we were so saddened to hear of John’s passing, yes I imagine he is regaling a few stories. Even though John liked telling the odd story he was also a great listener especially if it entailed family , loved telling the latest in regards to his grandsons
