Passed away peacefully at the Golden Plough Lodge with his daughter by his side on Monday, July 3rd, 2023, after an impressive 91 and a half years! Predeceased by the love of his life, Jean (Waller). Father of Ric (Gayle), Debbie Clarke (the late Dave), and Mike (Michelle). Predeceased by his parents Vic and Una Bevan. Brother of Phyllis Cochrane (the late Merwin), the late Joyce Ryan (the late John), the late Bill (the late Kay), and the late Joan Cochrane (the late Keith). A special Gramp to Jennifer (Charles Hall), Krista (Tom), Scott (Bridgette), and Tyler (Lisa), Stephen Clarke (Ali Martin), Angie Turpin (Derek), Sarah Brisbin (Chris), and Lisa Hayman (Cam), and Jordan and Justin (Judith Zwetsloot) Bevan. Lovingly known as ‘Grampie-Great’ by his twenty-one ‘Great-Grandies’ and even had one Great-Great Grandaughter! When Gram passed away in 2016 no one really knew how Gramp was going to adjust to life without her, but he surprised us all for these past seven years as he channeled Gram’s love and energy and placed it into his relationships with his family. Gramp remembered the names of all his Grandies and loved hearing about their lives and all they were up to. We will remember Gramp’s love of the Blue Jays and the Maple Leafs who he continued to watch and cheer for until the end. His Grandies will remember Gramp scratching tickets at the kitchen table, playing shuffleboard with him in Zephyrhills, Florida, and him coming to their ball and hockey games. They will also remember his deep and unwavering love for his dogs Paco, Mutley and Rascal! His Great-Grandies will remember the huge smile on his face when they walked in to visit with him at the Plough as he was always so happy to see them! Max enjoyed many years working at Kraft Foods and his family is very grateful to those who kept in touch and visited with Max or phoned him over the years. We also want to thank the staff and volunteers at the Plough for their care and patience over the past four years, with special mention to Peter, Thelma, Anne, Mary Ellen and Dr. T. Reynolds.
Cremation has taken place and will be followed by a private family burial. Details for a Celebration of Life at a later date will be shared and all who knew Max or his family are welcomed to join us! Those wishing to make a donation in Max’s honour are invited to do so to the Peterborough Butterfly Run (please make cheque payable to GPHSF - Butterfly Run) in memory of his sweet great-grandson Macklin Hayman (Team Mack’s Pack) or to the Northumberland Humane Society for Gramp’s love of his dogs! Condolences happily received at www.MacCoubrey.com and your kind words will be cherished. Max/Dad/Gramp/Grampie-Great, we’re sending you off with one last boot in the backside! You will be greatly missed! Xoxo
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, August 20th, 2023 at the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 133, Cobourg, from 2pm-4pm.

Max has left an indelible mark on my live. Grandpa Max as I would call him (I called him just Max once and he was so startled I remember 'Grandma' Jean scolded me) taught me many lessons I'm kindness and courage. Growing up they looked after me and my sister after school which was a walk away. Many afternoons were spent with scratch cards, pudding, and stories of Florida. He will be missed but his legacy lives on through all those he's influenced. Sending my love to the family
