Peacefully at the Golden Plough Lodge, Cobourg on Tuesday June 20th in her 93rd year. Beloved wife of Jay McVety. Loving mother of Dianne McVety, Wayne McVety, Patricia Young (Kevin) and Bruce McVety. Cherished Momma to her grandchildren Kim (Rick), Karrie (Adrian), Trevor, Michael (Julie), Kevin, Carrie (Tom), Tina (John), Kevin, Alex, Shannon (Corey), Mathew (Erica) and the late Jason, her great grandchildren, Joseph (Taylor), Jamie (Meagan), Kelly (Jack), Quinn, Zane, Justin, Ashley (Mitchell), Catelyn, Ethan, Michaela, Jessica, Evan, Felicia, Desiree, Tyson, Haylee, Cadence, Evan, and Holden and great great grandmother of Sofia, Emmitt, Aspen, Tomas and Jaxon. Muriel is pre-deceased by her siblings Lloyd, Doris and Shirley. Lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to a celebration of life on Thursday June 29th from 4-7 pm. in the MacCoubrey Funeral Home Reception Centre, 30 King St., E., Cobourg, at which time, we will also be celebrating the life of Muriel’s grandson Jason who passed away June 19, 2021 in Cape Breton Nova Scotia. Interment for Muriel will be in Merrill Cemetery, Roseneath. If desired donations may be made to Golden Plough Lodge, Northumberland Hills Hospital or the charity of your choice.

I was very saddened to hear that Muriel had passed away as she was a wonderful and sweet lady . My parents and Muriel & Jay were very close and dear friends for many,many yrs and so my siblings and myself grew up with their kids . I always thought of Muriel as a second mom. She will be missed dearly by everyone who knew and loved her . My deepest condolences and prayers go out to Jay and family at this very tragic time . As she was one of the best. My first meeting with Jay & Muriel was in 1954 when as a 14 year old in Roseneath, her dad, Alex Spiers, took me under his wing to teach me the fine art of fishing on Rice Lake. From that point on, a close bond developed with visits to the farm, hauling milk cans to the Warkworth Cheese Factory plus a lot of laughs and good times. Even after I joined the Royal Bank and Helen and I settled in Haldimand County (south of Hamilton), we always dropped by to visit with them when in the Cobourg area. The visits always included Muriel showing us the current photos of their family and telling us how proud she was about each and every one of them. Memories are something to be treasured.
