Evellene passed away unexpectedly at her home on June 7th, 2023. Beloved mother of Wayne Gerald Cochrane (Bronwyn), Wendy Marie Reay (Thomas), Patricia Louise Cochrane and Brenda Diana Woodward (Darin Carswell). Loving grandmother of Jennifer Breckenridge (Keith), Amanda Cochrane, Andrew Reay and Jenna Woodward and great grandmother of Alex Breckenridge. She loved her two fur grand babies Cali and Oaklee. Evellene was the daughter of the late Victoria Maude and Earl Smoke. After retiring, Evellene spent many days preparing and serving luncheons for funerals at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 133 Cobourg. She moved from her beloved Cobourg to Alderville in 2019, to the Minnetonka Estates, a lovely senior’s complex. She was well looked after by the PSW, medical van drivers and neighbours in her complex, council and chiefs. A celebration of life will take place Friday June 16th from 12 noon – 2 pm. At the Alderville Community Centre, 8913 County Rd. #45. In Lieu of flowers, please be kind to someone.
I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Evellene. Her and my Mom were great friends back in their youth. I came across some photos today and I reached our to her granddaughter who told me about her passing. My deepest condolences to her family!

I am so sorry to hear of Evellene’s passing. I worked with her often with the Ladies Auxiliary in the kitchen and thoroughly enjoyed her company. She always had a smile on her face, and a story to tell. And for years, she always took the time to send me a lovely handwritten birthday card. Condolences to her family.

Mom and I reminisced about how thoughtful Aunt Ev was to remember everyone's birthdays and always sent birthday cards. Once she came back to reside on the reserve, we chuckled about how, after all these years, she was still a force to be reckoned with! We will miss your laughter and your smiles! Always greeted with a smile. Brightened my day with her laughter and touched my heart with her generous soul, and on occasion brought tears to my eyes. She will be forever missed, but will always have a special place in my heart. Until we meet again.

I have many memories of your Mom as we grew up together in the same neighbourhood, sharing the common bond of being raised by a single parent and all that brings with it. A very accomplished woman to have you four and your children as a proud legacy. In adult life when happening upon each other there were long conversations of catching up with our lives and families as we had many connections and occasional phone calls were welcome.
