James (Jim,Scotty) Thompson was born August 15 1938 in Greenock Scotland and immigrated to Canada in 1959 with his lovely bride to be Margaret.
Margaret and Jim had almost 64 years together and seldom was one seen without the other close by. They were best friends and worked hard together to raise their family, make amazing homes and gardens and explore the world on many adventures.
Jim was a true Scottish Warrior – Fierce, Brave and Determined.
Jim was employed for many years by General Motors in Oshawa and retired in 2001.
His was a life full of many varied interests and endless adventures.
He enjoyed hiking, fishing & hunting, wilderness camping, boating, bird-watching, gardening, wildlife, raising horses and travelling. Jim and Margaret would turn heads on the dance floor everywhere they went. In his later years he raised budgies, learned to paint and created many interesting art pieces. He took to writing adventure stories for children. Other interests included Scottish History, watching European Football events on TV and enjoying time spent with family. He was always curious and learning new things. He was full of amazing ideas and was an inspiration to many. His energy was contagious.
He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret (Carruthers) and beloved daughters Elaine and his pre-deceased Son-in-Law David Tomiszer, Sandra and his Son-in-Law Kelly Elchuk, grand-daughter Kelsey Elchuk and her partner Alex Foster, and grandson Kyle Elchuk. He will also be missed by his sister Marion Filshill (and the late Ian Filshill), his nephew Stewart Filshill, niece Morag Ryan, and Morag’s daughter Morag Jr and her husband Matthew Benesch.
Many relatives and friends in Scotland will also miss Jim’s humour and antics.

Our deepest condolences to your family during this very difficult time. Your Dad, Jim Thompson was a wonderful man. May he RIP.
Our Brother-in-Law Jimmy Thompson from George and Ann and family in Scotland In 1959 when I was 5 years old my sister Margaret left our home in Scotland to go live in Canada and marry Jimmy. I didn’t know then, the impact that Jimmy would have on us for the years to come. Over the past 65 years Jimmy and Margaret would often return back home to Scotland where their adventures and stories could fill many a book, not to mention their visits that were often published in the local newspaper “The Greenock Telegraph”. Jimmy and Margaret loved to visit their home town of Greenock, especially having the opportunity to visit relations and Jim would fish on lochs and rivers where he would enjoy his day and bring home his catch. They also loved going to the 175 social club to meet friends and dance the night away. Jim’s love for hill walking and visits to Loch Thom were amongst the best that was, he would never pass strangers without a wee blether to exchange stories and discuss the weather. He was no doubt adventurous, had many hobbies and interests, and was extremely competitive and loved to enter various competitions which included specialised growing of flowers, especially Delphiniums, Jim also enjoyed breeding budgies, art projects and most recently publishing his children’s stories and sharing them on Youtube, When Ann and I used to visit them in Canada, Jim and Margaret would welcome you and give you the greatest times ever that we will never forget. Jim was so very proud to be Scottish, he was tough, very funny and loved to carry on, tell jokes and lift your spirits and make you smile. He lived his life to the full and overcame many a time with injury and would spring back just as quick. Jimmy, a devoted husband to my sister Margaret, father to my nieces Elaine and Sandra and Grandfather to Kelsey and Kyle was always there to give all his devotion and loving support. Our family here in Greenock, Scotland will deeply and sadly miss our brother-in-law Jimmy with the deepest of love. May we take this opportunity to convey our apologies for being unable to be with family and friends at this sad and difficult time and with our deepest thoughts, we send our love, sincere condolences and loss to Margaret, Elaine, Sandra and family. When we think of Jimmy, we will always remember him beating out the song at the top of his voice singing. For we're no' awa' tae bide awa', For we're no' awa tae le'e ye, For we're no' awa' tae bide awa’, We'll aye come back an' see ye. SEE U JIMMY We love you Jim, you will always be in our hearts and forever fond memories George, Ann and family
