So sorry to hear of John’s passing. I only knew John at Queens where we had mutual friends. John, myself , John Hare and another, whose name escapes me, used to trundle down from Kingston to Toronto for the w/e in John’s Mini stopping for refreshments at various spots ( pubs) along the way. My enduring image of John was that he was a quiet, kind, refined and caring person. My condolences to the family.

I met John for the first time when his mother, Marian, was still alive. Marian was a good friend of, and to my mother, Maida Philp. John provided legal services to both Mom and myself. I won't forget how John, a quiet man, always carried himself with magnificent dignity. I suspect he got those qualities from Marian, and that they are shared by his sister and brother. My heart goes out to all the family.
Dear Donna, I was very saddened to hear John had passed away! Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers!
For many years John was our cottage neighbour at Loughbreeze Beach in Colborne. He was friendly, easy to talk to, a good conversationalist, witty and a great host for our occasional happy hour get-togethers. Just an all round nice guy. He will be missed by all who knew him. To Donna and family we send our love, sympathy and fond memories. D'Arcy & Annamary (nee Palmateer) Kilham

Our deepest condolences to Donna and the family. John was a gentle man who we grew to know through our pizza and card nights. We had lots of laughs and even though John would pretend not to know what he was doing, he'd win. May his family find peace in their hearts knowing how special he was and that he will be missed by his friends.

I was saddened today to learn of the death of my former colleague John Carter. I came to know John during the 35+ years I practised law in Cobourg, and John had a well-established in the area with his office in Colborne. I always found John to be a pleasure to deal with, someone who was co-operative and eager to find resolutions to problems. He vigorously represented his clients, but never in an unnecessarily aggressive fashion (as was sometimes found in our profession), rather in a manner which tried to work best for everyone involved. As a bit senior to me, he was always willing to answer questions or extend a helping hand to a new lawyer starting out. I extend my condolences to Donna and all of John's family and many friends. Brad Halls, Fergus, Ontario (formerly of Cobourg)
