We are sad to announce the passing of Glenda Joan Archer on Tuesday March 14th, 2023. Beloved mother of daughter Jacqueline and her son Jean ( who pre-deceased her on May 3, 2021). She will be terribly missed by all who knew her. Her family wants to thank the staff of Lakeridge Health Oshawa for their skills and support. Glenda led an adventurous, fulfilling life after joining the RCAF in 1962, was a proud mother and Librarian. She enjoyed travelling throughout Canada and Europe and loved to share stories of her trips. She was a true Christian, leading by Christ’s example. She was Warden of St. Mary the Virgin, Worplesdon, Surrey, England for a number of years before returning to Canada and not only led on a number of restoration works of the Church but supported many of it’s endeavours. She was also proud to publish the book, “A Cry for Nemesis”. She retired to England in 2004 and returned home to Canada with her son in 2019, residing in Ottawa before returning to Cobourg in December 2022. She is survived by her daughter Jacqueline, brothers and sisters Jacqueline, John, Donna, Catherine, Diane and James (Connie) along with many nieces and nephews. A private family service will be held at the MacCoubrey Funeral Home, 30 King St., E., Cobourg. Glenda and her son Jean will be interred in Fairview Cemetery, Grafton in the Spring. Sandra Rossiter - March 15, 2023

I am so sad that my friend Glenda has left us. She was one of the finest women I have ever met. She cherished her children. The last conversation I had with her she was weak in voice but so strong in her pride and love of you, Jackie. Glenda and I worked together for many years at the Derry Byrne Teacher Centre. Her knowledge of children’s literature was valued by all teachers who knew her. She was a mentor and friend to all the Library Technicians and they appreciated her guidance. I will miss our conversations, your advice, and your love. Hugs to Jean.

Farewell to my good friend and travel partner. You opened your arms to me on my first day at CIHM, way back in 1985. You opened your home to me when I needed a temporary home. You took a newbie traveler under your wing in 1989 on our first of many trips to Britain. We have been through a lot together. You will be missed. I hope you are at peace and giving Jean a big hug! ❤️ My condolences to all the family.

Bernadette (Lawless) Gatien - March 15, 2023

I am saddened to see that you have lost a member of your family. Know that my thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this time. I knew that Glenda had quite a career with the RCAF but she was fortunate to have accomplished a lot of other interesting tasks as well. She had a life well lived! The days ahead will be difficult for all of you but know that many of us have you close to our hearts. Coming from a large and loving family you will have a great many happy memories to sustain you. Hopefully knowing Glenda is no longer suffering, and has now joined your parents, will be a comfort to all of you. My love to all of you. Sincerely. Bernadette
