It is with a sense of peace yet profound sadness, we share that after a heroic and courageous battle, Jennifer's Cancer journey has ended. Jennifer passed peacefully at Ed’s House Northumberland Hills Hospice Care Centre March 6, 2023 at the age of 69 surrounded in the love of her family.
Jennifer was a lifelong resident of Northumberland County and her favourite views were the rolling hills of the Cole Farm that she shared with her husband of 49 years, Allan.
Jennifer was the ultimate SuperMom to Ashley, Justin and Meg. She was very supportive of their life goals, careers and adventures. She was very proud of the lives they are building with Kelsey, Connie and James. She was delighted that they all chose to live close and visit often.
Her grandchildren, Lorelai, Noah, Beau and Cora were the lights of her life. She loved them fiercely and enjoyed many special times with them.
Jennifer, was a daughter of the late John and Freda Lean and was one of the infamous "Lean Girls". She loved their special Sister's lunches. She will be greatly missed by Wendy, Barbara, Joe, Susan and their families. She was heartbroken in 2016 when she lost her baby sister Dorothy after a courageous journey of her own. She was a proud member of the Cole Family and will be fondly remembered.
Jennifer spent her career working with young offenders as a probation officer. She always saw the positive in her “kids” and made a difference for many troubled youth. After retirement, she discovered a love of kayaking and spent many hours on the water or having lunch dates with her beloved co-workers. She demonstrated that working life can be great when you have wonderful work friendships. She continued after retirement working with various organizations devoted to children.
She particularly loved Camp Quin-Mo-Lac and was a proud member of the "Twisted Sisters," an exceptional group of women who were her very best friends.
Jennifer received exemplary care at the Durham Regional Cancer Centre. She was very fond of Dr. Rothenstein and Dr. Broomfield. She delighted in showing off pictures of her grandchildren to all her fabulous nurses there. Our family will always be grateful for the innovative treatment plans they developed that allowed her much more time than we ever dreamed possible. We owe a debt of gratitude to our favourite nurses from St Elizabeth’s and to Dr. Mule and the incredible staff at Ed’s House.
A Celebration of Jennifer’s life will take place at the Cold Springs Hall 3844 Burnham St N, Cobourg, ON K9A 4J9 Saturday, March 18, 2023 from 1:00 – 4:00 PM. A sharing of memories will take place at 2:00 PM. Due to limited internet service, the service will NOT be livestreamed. A recording of the service will be uploaded to this page shortly after.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Durham Regional Cancer Centre, Camp Quin-Mo-Lac or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
I am sorry to hear of Jennifer's death and send my loving thoughts to the family. I remember with fondness Ashley's visits to Salt Spring, one with Aunt Mildred and one with her new husband, Kelsey, and also Allen, Jennifer and Justin's whirlwind visit to Victoria and Salt Spring.

Having just returned from the sunny south to come upon the sad news of Jennifer's passing, on behalf of the Malowney family let me express our sincere condolences to you Allan and family. Jennifer was always such a positive presence wherever she found herself, not to mention her enpathy and compassionate support of others. I had the pleasure of serving with Jennifer in the early years of the Hamilton Township Police Service Board and these personal attributes came through on a regular basis, not to mention her acumen in her years as Chairperson. We have thought of her often during these ensuing years and are convinced that she is in a better place. Take care of yourself and others as she would have.
So sorry to hear of your loss. Jennifer was a great neighbour! Chris and I are sorry to have missed her celebration of life. I am sure the hall was packed full.

I had the privilege of working with Jennifer and at one time we commuted together when Jennifer was working in Peterborough. Jennifer Cole is a courageous, happy , loving woman. That will not change in this world or the next. I picture her marching forward smiling to her new continuing journey bringing all her stories, memories & loved ones with her. I was deeply saddened to hear of Jennifer's passing. I had the great pleasure of working with her indirectly through the courts in Cobourg until she retired. We always had a good chat when we ran in to each other. Beautiful, vibrant lady who was always cheerful and positive. I always look to her house as I am driving by and now I will look to heaven as I am sure she is leading the pack up there and ensuring there is lots of fun happening. I knew Jennifer through our mutual work dealing with the young people at Brookside Youth Centre. Jennifer was always a positive, upbeat individual who deeply cared about her clients and wanted the best for them. We enjoyed many wonderful conversations. I had the honour of working alongside Jennifer on several committees etc. during our time as probation officers and enjoyed many good times with her and your family. We will always treasure the memories. Thinking of you all with love and sympathy

Ashley, Kelsey, Lorelai, Noah and all of the many people who loved Jennifer. Find comfort knowing she lived a life full of love and that she gave it everything she had. Through my friendship with Ashley it was clear that when Jennifer was having good days through her cancer journey she made the most of those days. Its so very hard to say goodbye to our loved ones but holding onto those happy memories of the times she enjoyed with family and friends will truly help you through your days of grief. We were so sad to hear of Jennifer's death and know what a deep loss that will be in the lives of all who knew her. There will be so many happy memories to keep her essence alive in the world! We enjoyed hearing from Ashley, Kelsey, Lorelei and Noah about her spirit, her adventures and her strong love and enjoyment in her family. Even those of us who didn't know her well are grieving today.

Allan and family, Greg joins me in extending our sympathies to you at a difficult time. We enjoyed baseball bus trips together and will remember them fondly as we embark on another ball trip in May. We will raise a toast in her memory! I loved her visits to Bewdley Library programs with her grandkids- she beemed from ear to ear in their presence. Her journey may have ended but her legacy lives on!

To the family and friends of Jennifer Cole... I was very saddened today to learn of Jennifer's death. She was within a few weeks of precisely my own age, and so I am only too aware that she has left us far too early. I came to know Jennifer when I was living and practising law in Cobourg, and worked frequently with young offenders, so I came to know Jennifer in her role as a probation officer. She was very dedicated to her profession, and saw her role as not simply monitoring or supervising young people in trouble with the law, but as actually "helping" them to take positive lessons from their experience on probation, and I have no doubt that dozens of young people in Northumberland became better people from just having the opportunity to have Jennifer work with them. She was a very kind, conscientious person who was a joy to work with. I can only begin to understand how much a loss her passing will be to her family and close friends.
