Ligaya (also known as Lily) passed away suddenly & unexpectedly on the afternoon of Monday February 13th, 2023 at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre. Ligaya was married to George for almost 59 years. Ligaya was the loving mother to Monica (Husband, Sal) Leslie (Wife, Sharon) and Lola (which means Grandmother in Filipino) to her only grandchild Serafina, and older sister to Elena and deceased sisters Rosario and Josefina. Ligaya is a Filipino name which translated to English means happiness and joy which she gave to many people who knew her. Ligaya was born to Jose and Calixta Villanueva and raised in Manila, Philippines. She was the eldest of 4 daughters. After getting her Bachelor of Science in Home Economics at a university in the Philippines, she first went to the United States then came to Canada where she became a dietician. She worked as a dietician in several hospitals in Toronto before deciding to become a full time mother. She helped George with running of the contracting business by conducting the administrative and accounting work. Ligaya loved traveling, cooking, plants and family. She had a strong Catholic upbringing and also had a strong faith. She would take part in different events at the churches she attended. She was a great loving mother & Lola. Always thinking of others before herself, even when she became ill. She will be forever loved and missed terribly. May she be carried on angel’s wings to her eternal home in heaven.
