It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Marcella Polson (née Rousseau) on Monday February 6th, at the age of 95, after a brief battle with cancer. Marcie was the beloved wife of the late Hugh Polson, to whom she was married for 49 wonderful years. Left to mourn are her three daughters, Cathy (Barry) Toner, Peggy (Chris) Gillis, and Debbie (John) McKee. Marcella was the cherished “Nanny” to her five grandchildren: Becky, Erin, Johnathan, Cristin, and Alexandra, and to her two great-grandchildren, Verity and Adley. Throughout her life, she also built close relationships with her many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Marcella was born in Clinton, Ontario and eventually settled with her family in Whitby where her parents built their family business in antiques and furniture restoration. In addition to her work at the store, she also loved to share her vocal gifts as a member of the County Town Singers and in the church choir, along with many family and friends. Upon retirement, Hugh and Marcie moved to Cobourg, Ontario, where she continued her involvement in community theatre productions.
Marcie loved to travel, and was blessed to take several trips to Europe with her family, and spend many summers with Hugh on Hilton Head Island. France always held a special place in her heart, and she felt so fortunate to visit the shrine of her cherished St. Thérèse of Lisieux on a trip with her daughters to Normandy.
She could always be counted on for her hospitality, and loved to host her family and friends for a sing-along (with a glass of wine, of course!). Marcella lived by her Faith and showed kindness to everyone. The memories created and the love that she shared will forever be in our hearts.
Visitation will be held at MacCoubrey Funeral Home, at 30 King St. E. in Cobourg, ON on Wednesday February 8th from 6–8pm and Thursday February 9th from 1–2pm. A funeral service will be celebrated at MacCoubrey Funeral Home on Thursday February 9th at 2pm, followed by a reception at the same location. Marcella’s ashes will be laid to rest beside her dear Hughie in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice in gratitude for their care and compassion during Marcella’s final days.

We will never forget that warm smile and friendly greeting. Many memories through travel and the Northumberland Players. We send our sincere condolences to you all on the passing of Marcie as she begins a new journey.
I am so sorry to hear of Marcie’s passing. We were introduced by Andy Gillis, Chris’s brother, and through Marcie I wound up presenting to the Probus Club after my first of many visits to the Arctic with Adventure Canada. That led to dozens of speaking engagements, comprising a very important stage in my career. Seven years later, on a return engagement with the local Probus Club, I was thrilled to see Marcie there cheering me on again, and was able to thank her for that initial opportunity. Little did I know that would be my last public speaking engagement in that role, as the pandemic put an end to my travels. I am so grateful that Marcie was there for the first and last presentations I did for Adventure Canada and for her kind encouragement. Wishing peace and fond memories to all her family and friends.
A sparkle has gone from the sky above Cobourg! Marcie was truly a lovely lady. I didn't know her for long, but she always had that warm friendly smile and was truly interested in talking with us. She always talked about her girls and grandchildren and her highlights were the trips she had with them. If I remember correctly, the last one was to Ireland which she loved.
We have many happy remembrances of Marcie. She was among the first to welcome us to the Probus Club of Northumberland when we moved to Cobourg many ears ago. And we enjoyed her company on many other occasions, where she was always gracious and thoughtful. We feel we have lost a close friend. Had we known about the Celebration of Marcie's Life, we would have been sure to have been there.
Dear Polson family - so sorry to hear of Marcie's passing. I remember her very fondly when she sang in the choir at St. Michael's when my husband John was the organist. She was lots of fun especially at those choir parties. She was gifted with an amazing voice. May she rest in peace with Hugh.
Dear Cathy, Peggie and Debbie, I was so saddened to hear of your mom’s passing. She was such a wonderful woman, both very classy, full of grace and charm with a warm heart and down to earth and ready for laughter and a good time. I so admired her and enjoyed the time I got to spend with her in C. T.S. Although I saw little of her in the last few years I thought of her often and often intended to call in to see her. How I wish I had done it. How fortunate you have been to have had her with you for so many years and to have so many memories. I am sorry that I missed her visitation and funeral but I did not know about it in time. Sending hugs to you all. Lynda
Cathy, Peggy and Debbie, I’m so glad you had all those extra years with your mom. She was so woven in your lives, you all must miss her terribly, What a life and legacy! We all loved your parents and cherished the times we all spent together. Your mom was a treasure. Love Cindy

Dearest Marcella and family, I am so very sorry I didn't get the chance to say goodbye, I met you briefly at Landmark You will be missed
Aunt Marcie had the voice of an Angel and the kindness and compassion of a Saint. The McArees felt so blessed to be part of her and Uncle Hugh’s world -sharing so many great memories filled with love, music, laughs and the odd glass of wine. Aunt Marcie was beautiful inside and out, and her lovely red hair was such a radiant feature. We especially enjoyed listening to her sing traditional melodies, like “Edelweiss” and “Danny Boy” (also Uncle John’s best tune), and later singing along with our cousins to old favorites like, “Consider Yourself”. So sad to say goodbye to this gracious woman, but Uncle Hugh’s been waiting a long time for her to join him. Love Vicky Coolledge (née McAree), her hubby, Steve, and our family

To all the family and friends of Marcie Polson. My wife Heather and I were sad to hear of Marcie's passing. I came to know her best through our mutual love of music and theatre and our involvement in Northumberland Players. I still have memories of working with her on a production of "Oklahoma!" some years ago, and the warmth and friendliness she exuded from our very first meeting. She had a boisterous, outgoing personality that lifted your spirits just being in her orbit. I am sure she will be deeply missed by all in her extended circle of family and friends.
It’s been such a very long time that I met your dad and mom when they moved to Bloomsgrove St in Port Hope. They were friends of Mrs and Mrs Norm O’Leary. One does not forget good people. You have my deepest sympathies. ❤️
