Mervyn 'Bruce' Cudmore

January 19, 1935 - January 20, 2023

Bruce passed away January 20, 2023, at the age of 88. He was born in Exeter, Ontario to parents, Mervyn and Avis Cudmore (both deceased), on January 19, 1935. He was the older brother to Nancy Rooth (deceased).

Bruce was the beloved husband of Deanna (Mallard) for 60 years. He was a wonderful family man, devoted to his sons, Stephen (Nancy), Andrew (Caroline) and Paul (Stephanie). He was a very proud grandfather of Sam, Elspeth, Alison, Will, Hillary and Thomas. He will be fondly remembered by Ed and Marilyn Mallard and their family, Sharon Jones and her family, and Don Rooth and his family.

After graduation from the Hamilton Institute of Technology, Bruce’s working career began in 1960 with IBM (Canada) where he worked with many friends and colleagues. Sailing, flying and woodworking were his hobbies, and the family was very thankful for his ability to repair things. He taught them all well.

Bruce was a gentleman and a gentle man. He will be missed for his quiet approach to life in general.

As per Bruce’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at MacCoubrey Funeral Home, 30 King Street East, Cobourg, Saturday, February 4, 2023 from 11:00am – 2:00pm with a sharing of memories by the family at 11:30am. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to a charity of your choice or to the Northumberland Hills Hospital or to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada.

To the Cudmore family Our deepest sympathies for the passing of your husband , father, grandfather, and friend . The gallichan, Shepley and Robertson’s have many great memories of the times spent together. The Shaw festival, the cottage on Fox lake, sailing the Great lakes, dinners and the backyard fun in Markham. Bruce was able to be the steady hand amongst this group of somewhat boisterous friends. He truly was a gentleman and a gentle man. With much love , Gallichan and Shepley families.

David E. Floody - January 25, 2023

I am the son of Norman George Baxter Floody and Lulu Pearl Lindenfield, younger sister to Avis Cudmore, Bruce's mother and my "Aunt Avis". Bruce was a beloved older cousin I enjoyed and respected, and we spent some happy summers and Christmases together in Exeter and our two family cottages on Lake Huron, near the small tourist village of Grand Bend. Bruce helped me learn to ride a bicycle, and I will never forget that heavy old blue and white iron girl's bicycle that weighed a ton! He also introduced me to the construction and flying of the model airplanes he loved, and which became an early boyhood passion of mine. I was delighted when Bruce sometimes allowed me to wear his old red and black South Huron District school jacket, hanging off me like and armed cape. Bruce was a quiet thoughtful man, and unreservedly kind to me at our Christmas get-togethers and time spent on the lovely Lake Huron beaches our two family cottages overlooked. I'm very appreciative of the loving support of his wife Deanna, and his Cudmore sons and wider family in his declining years. His passing peaceful and surrounded by love. I will miss Bruce, and will continue to think of him often as I continue in my senior years. With much love and thanks, David and Eileen Floody, Tofino BC.
