Stephanie Janet Warren

December 2, 1945 - November 24, 2022

Stephanie was born in Bristol, England the only child of Lillian and Stephen Warren. When she was still very young the family emigrated to Canada and made their home in Scarborough, Ontario. Growing up in the suburbs of Toronto, Stephanie always loved her summer getaways to her uncle’s cottage on Jack’s Lake near Apsley and would often take along her dearest friend Laura to share the adventures.

In her late teens, she went to work for Simpsons-Sears where she met a group of life-long friends whom she treasured dearly! When she retired from Sears, she moved to Port Hope and then to Cobourg when she sold her Port Hope house. Life in Northumberland County brought her an entirely new circle of friends to add to her Sears gang. She joined the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and worked at Quigley’s, Cashway and then Gilmer’s Home Hardware. Because of Stephanie’s kind and generous ways, she made close friends wherever she was and many of these friends were considered “family” and truly were her family as Stephanie never married and all of her kin were in England.

Steph loved to decorate, shop, browse home design magazines and eat in restaurants…a passion she shared with her friends often. She did not like to cook or waste time in the kitchen. She loved all animals, but held a special place in her heart for her Emma…the dog she had named after her grandmother.

As per Stephanie’s wishes, she will be cremated and a party will be held at a later date. In her will she wrote …… “I would appreciate it if my friends could gather for a party and have a good time remembering that I will be in the best place possible.”

To know Stephanie was to love her. She will be missed by so many and her smile, giggle, kindness and friendship will never be forgotten.

In lieu of flowers, Steph has selected UNICEF Canada for donations in her memory.

Rest In Peace, Sweet Lady!

Stephanie was my Godmother. I sadly never had the chance to truly get to know her, but the times we were together when I was very young were full of joy and happiness. It’s been wonderful to read such thoughtful comments about her life and how she touched so many. I know my Mom adored her and it’s easy to understand why. Thank you for being such a wonderful person throughout your life, and for being such an important part of my family. Rest peacefully, Stephanie.

Dear dear Stephanie...our Mom's constant companion in the last year of her life...such a support to us, Loretta's daughters...so many meals shared in Toronto, Wooler and Cobourg...great memories...of laughter...sadly the last two years put a stop to Steph and my lunches at the Buttermilk Cafe and other haunts in and around Cobourg...I will miss Stephanie....a friend of our Mom's from Sears days...a close group of six is now just one...these women were true trail blazers.... I'm so sorry to hear of Stephanie's passing. I have wonderful memories of her helping my husband and I chose paints and wallpaper at Quigley's Hardware. She was so talented. And then she joined my Probus Club and we reconnected. A truly lovely lady.

Our dear friend, Stephanie! We had some great times together, without a doubt! How much you were loved and how many lives you touched with your kindness and generosity is so apparent now that we have met those wonderful friends you used to talk about through the many phone calls and emails sent to let them know you are no longer with us. You were, indeed a special person. And now you can rest. But you will never be forgotten. Love you! Louise and Doug Weldon

Lizzy Greenham - November 29, 2022

I will always remember Stephanie as such a wonderful friend to my Mom, Laura. She made it so easy to know that my Mom was well looked after every time she had to go to Canada to visit her own Mother when she was sick. I loved the fact in recent years I was also able to share so much with her about our lives over here in England via Facebook. It was so lovely that I could share things with my Godmother more easily and she enjoyed seeing all the photos of our family. She was a wonderfully kind person and she will be sorely missed by everyone who knew her. Rest peacefully Stephanie. All our love, Lizzy, Shaun, Harvey, Bentley & Baby Bump xxxxxx

Laura Hamilton - November 29, 2022

Stephanie truly was my friend, continuously from the time we first met as 10 year old girls in Scarborough. Best-ever friend. Forever friend. The-sister-I-never-had friend who knew me as no one else ever did. Irreplaceable friend. Whether we were separated by much of a continent after I moved to Washington State, or separated by the Atlantic Ocean after I moved from Washington to England, we were so close that though time apart and distance keep us apart, our Skype chats were as easy, loving and familiar as though we had been together just the previous day. Each of the seven times I had to come to Cobourg without my family because of my mother's illnesses, as she and my mother had moved to Cobourg, I stayed with Stephanie. And she always gave me the use of her car, trusting me not to drive on the "wrong" side of the road. (I never let her down!) My husband and I chose her to be our children's godmother for she was, quite simply, the most wonderful person. Every day, as I told her many times, I hoped she would come to England to visit me. And every day, I thought of what we could do together in England. Now that she has gone to "the best place possible", I will keep thinking of her every day. She truly was God's special blessing to me. Angels will already have sung her to paradise where she will be with the father she adored, her mother, Emma and the others she has loved. May her loving soul rest in peace.

Denise and Rory Quigley - November 29, 2022

Linda Christensen - November 29, 2022

Steph, I always enjoyed spending time with you. We shared much in common - our interest in decor, love of animals and meals out. We liked getting dressed up and even discovered we had the same cheerful red jacket. Steph was an amazing listener and so very knowledgeable about American politics. She was a loyal friend and never spoke Ill of anyone. I have grown used to missing her since moving back to Toronto, but knowing she is now in another realm, happy though she may be to be with loved ones, is a great loss for me. Fare thee well, Steph. You are in my thoughts and hold a special place in my heart.
