It is with heavy hearts the family of Shirley Lydia Terwilligar (nee Haskins) announce her passing. Shirley passed away peacefully on Wednesday November 16, 2022, at Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice Care Centre in Cobourg in her 82nd year.
She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas Terwilligar and dear mom of Jeff (Shari) and Jennifer (Nathan). Loved Grandma to Amanda (Kevin), Cameron (Katie), Evan (Kirsten), Dylan (Ally), Cortney (Jack), Bayley, and Nerissa. Cherished Great-Grandma to Lucas, Connor and Maia. Shirley grew up in the Township of Rear of Leeds and Lansdowne on the family’s Black Rapids Road homestead. Her father John Vernon Haskins inspired her love of art and the outdoors. Shirley spent many years creating beautiful paintings, crafts, quilts, cakes, skating outfits, and knitted items. Her family appreciated the compassionate care that Shirley received from the hospital and hospice staff. A private service will be held on Saturday November 19, 2022, at MacCoubrey Funeral Home, Cobourg, followed by interment at Cobourg Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Art Gallery of Northumberland, Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice Care Centre, or the Northumberland Hills Hospital Foundation.

I will always remember Mrs. Terwilliger for her kindness, her soft and pleasant demeaner. She always greeted me with a smile no matter where we met up. Even as a child growing up in the depot she was like a community mother. She was definitely a ray of sunshine for anyone who came in contact with her. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

So sorry to hear of Shirley’s passing…she was a neighbour and good friend for many years..we would do crafts together and drink tea and try to solve the problems of the world..don’t think we ever did..but we enjoyed each other’s company…haven’t seen her since the pandemic…but thought about her daily…our hearts go out to all the family at this time …rest in peace my dear friend…I will keep the memories close!
