John passed bravely and peacefully in palliative care at Northumberland Hills Hospital.
Soul mate and husband of the late Heather Trefiak (nee Murray). Loving son of Gloria Russell (Jack). Loyal brother to Wendy Woroch. Proud father of Jennifer (Peter), Tiffany (Jason), and Miranda. John was a patient and caring Grampy to Christian, Justin, Liam, Lachlan, Ava, Oren, Lily, and Ella. Predeceased by his granddaughter Joy.
John was a peacekeeping veteran who served in Cyprus, Germany, and Belgium. He told fascinating stories of his adventures as a paratrooper, meeting people overseas and trying local delicacies. He was a lover of music who enjoyed going to concerts (The Beatles and Queen among many) and playing his guitar. John was loved by many for his easy going nature and his infectious sense of humour. He would whoop you in Trivial Pursuit but you would have a fun time losing. John passed down his love of the outdoors and camping to his family. He greatly enjoyed an early morning coffee while quietly sitting by the lake.
John’s passing has left a hole in our lives, he will be missed.
At John’s request, a private family ceremony will be held in Alderville.
John has asked that you do not grieve, but can honour his memory with a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society.
My sincere condolences to all Johns family
