Joan Johnson

September 19, 1930 - August 31, 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Joan Johnson (Stewart), on Wednesday August 31, 2022. Beloved wife of O. Ross Johnson for 67 years who died earlier this year and loving mother to Lisa (Bret Snider) and her late son Jeffery Ross. Adored Grandmother to Cameron Watt (Jessica Harte), Kenneth Watt (Angela Horsfall), and Great Grandmother to Logan Watt, and mother-in-law to Dave Watt. Daughter of the late James and Sylvia Stewart (Crowhurst) and survived by her brothers Arthur (Claire- deceased), Claude (Shirley) and Dennis (Diane) Stewart. Sister to the late Mary Marsh (Alan) and Robert Stewart (Mabel). Joan was also loved by her many nieces, nephews, and great and grand nieces, and nephews as by her many friends, her students and all she worked closely with in her volunteer roles including those at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church. Joan’s selfless love for her family and friends, her acts of kindness and her smile will live on in our hearts and memories. She graduated “Normal School” and began teaching in a one-room schoolhouse and deeply touched the lives of everyone she taught. Joan gave up teaching to adopt Lisa and Jeff and provided a loving, nurturing, and safe home for them and Ross in Niagara Falls, Kingston, Elginburg, and finally Cobourg. She donated hours to charitable organizations including the Girl Guides in Kingston and the Food Bank in Cobourg to name a few. She spent hours with her grandchildren teaching them the passion of creating, cooking comfort foods and to love the outdoors from gardening to fishing. We ask that any donation in her honour be made to the Northumberland Hills Hospital Foundation or to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Cobourg. We also ask that you give a donation of a hug and kiss to those closest to you made in Joan’s Honour. Cremation will be taking place and a private family interment will occur in the Fall.
