Alan Hathaway

March 12, 1937 - August 19, 2022

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Alan Hathaway on Friday, August 19, 2022, at the age of 85. Alan passed peacefully at the Ed’s House Hospice surrounded in the love of his family. In 1993 Alan’s first wife, Murna Davis Hathaway tragically passed away. October 28, 1995 he remarried to Shelley McGill- Hathaway. Together they were able to blend their family into what it is today. Alan will be deeply missed by his son’s, Michael, Neil and Jon. Grandfather to Ashely, Jade and Kaitlyn and great-grandfather to Cohen and Cooper. Cherished brother to Colin (Dolores), Brian (the late Irene), the late Robert, Janet (Bill), David, Ann (the late Norm), Nancy (Danny) and Randy (Mary Lou). Alan will be missed and forever loved by his many nieces and nephews. He loved his family deeply and loved to be loved. The family would like to extend their most sincere gratitude to all the staff at Ed’s House Hospice as well as to Dr. Cathy Bernard Thompson. Your gentle care and compassion for both Alan and his family did not go unnoticed or unappreciated. Alan was a man of love. He genuinely cared about humanity and nature with a veracity that encouraged others to create a better earth for future generations. He was an authentic example of staying true to oneself. He lived passionately and loudly. A man to turn to when seeking advice. His final piece of advice, “If you have any misunderstandings or disagreements, let them go. Forgive and forget. And take care of your woman!” He was a jack of all trades, his creativity and attention to detail astounding and inspiring. He was a big presence in this world and will be missed deeply by all who knew and loved him. You’re over on the good side now Al. We love you. A private family graveside service will take place at St. Aloysius & Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Cemetery, Fenelon Falls where Alan will be laid to rest with Murna. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice Care Centre.
