Joane Ross Sherman (nee Baer)

December 19, 1931 - July 29, 2022

Joane passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on her terms, just as she lived her life. She was a lover of the arts, an accomplished interior designer with a natural flair for space and colour. Joane had a profound love of horses and dogs both for their majestic beauty and the comfort they provided. Joane was never one to shy away from a good debate, she held strong opinions and convictions and was very well read.

Joane is predeceased by her beloved husband Joseph of over 60 years, and by her brother Ricky. Joane leaves behind her son Steven & his wife Kay (MacCoubrey). Nana to her much loved grandchildren: Riley (Shobana), Bobbi and Ava, of whom she was so very proud. Loving sister in law to Bonnie, and Aunt to Ian. Joane will be dearly missed by Annie (and her family) “the daughter she never had”, confidant & friend by whom she was so loved and known as “Swami”. Joane leaves behind an intimate circle of friends whom Joane cherished and meant so much to her.

We are forever grateful to Joane’s caregivers; Orlando Polanco, and Jennifer Campbell who made Joane’s days so much easier, filled with comfort and laughter. Our thanks to the staff at Palisade Gardens for your generosity & kindness particularly these past few months. Our sincere gratitude to Dr. Mule , Dr. Essak, & Dr. Plue for allowing Joane to keep her dignity to the very end. Your kindness, grace and dedication to your patients is a marvel.

We ask that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the MS Society in her name. There will be a private memorial to celebrate her life and legacy.

Debra Sherman - August 1, 2022

Joane and I would spend a good hour on the phone whenever I called in. There wasn’t anything we couldn’t talk about. I admired her ability to transform every new house into a photo for “Home & Garden”. Simplistic and beautiful. And Joane was beautiful too. Heaven has not only gained a new decorator, but a sweet and graceful soul. Heartfelt condolences to the family.
