It is with great sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Dave Tredree on July 23, 2022 at “Ed’s House” in Cobourg. He is survived by Linda, his loving wife of 54 years, children Heather (husband Andy), Chris (wife Cheri), Susan (husband Mike), and Michael (wife Kenya), grandchildren Connor and Braeden (Heather), Olivia and Cole (Chris), Jordan and Blake (Susan), and Sebastian (Michael), and his sister Jayne.
Dave has long been a fixture within the Cobourg and Northumberland communities as a local merchant and Radio Shack dealer, a hockey coach, a soccer coach, and a member of many local clubs such as the Rotary Club. All are welcomed to join us in a celebration of Dave’s life which will be held at Kelly’s Homelike Inn on Thursday, August 25 from 1-4 pm.
Originally from Campbellford, Dave and his wife Linda (nee Jones of Hastings) first moved to Cobourg in 1967 and quickly embraced the community. As a talented drummer, singer, and eternal jazz lover, he opened Tredree Photo & Music in downtown Cobourg, which became commonly known as the local Radio Shack - a business he would own and manage for the next 52 years.
Never one to back down from a challenge, Dave was involved in many endeavors which included businesses in Port Hope, Trenton, and Belleville, as well as managing properties across the county including the former Lilac Lodge on Rice Lake. He spent two decades pursuing a life-long goal of earning a university degree which he accomplished in 1991 when he graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor degree in Commerce. Perhaps the most unlikely of challenges was his decision to get involved as a local hockey coach.
Although he never had the opportunity to play hockey in his youth, Dave was a true student of the game and eventually earned his certification as a high performance (Level 5) coach. Like most coaches, he began in the local house league; however, he quickly moved to rep hockey where he led his teams to back-to-back provincial championships in 1987-88 and 1988-89. Dave also enjoyed the opportunity to have coached the Cobourg Cougars, as well as “triple A” teams in both Peterborough and Quinte. He was remarkably proud of all of his players, some of whom graduated to major junior, NCAA, and professional leagues, including the NHL.
Dave’s most powerful and notable characteristic was his devotion to his family. He loved all of us unconditionally and was never afraid to express it. He was dedicated to experiencing all that life had to offer and sharing it with those whom he loved. He possessed a unique sense of humour and outlook that was unforgettable and taught us all that life was worth living, no matter what.
Dave, you were a consummate family man and a fiercely loyal friend - thank you for everything!

Our heartfelt condolences to Dave's family. May fond memories help you all thru this difficult time. I worked for Dave for 8 years at Radio Shack when I was just 18, he was a great boss. He taught me so much about dealing with the public. He always stuck up for his staff and once threw a customer out of the store he thought was being too belligerent with me. He was a kind, thoughtful man with those he cared about and took no cuff from anybody. I have fond memories of Dave, RIP.
Linda and family- I’m so sorry to hear of Dave’s passing. A great fixture indeed, and memory to both my (Kelly) family and to my husband, Dave’s family. Love to you all.

Linda and family, please know that Mary Ellen and I share your pain, and have since he was first diagnosed four years ago. Having just read Dave's wonderfully written obituary and the many many condolence memories, it is clearer to me than ever, just how full a life Dave lived. Touching so many people in so many different and positive ways. He was the one who deserved a gold star. I was attracted to his mischievous fun-loving mind in grade 6 and am proud that he was a lifelong friend; a constant in my life. He was brave to the end, showing us all the way. I miss him.

Linda and family: As I read Dave’s obituary, the phrase that resonates for me is “ fiercely loyal friend”. Meeting Dave as I came to Campbellford D.H.S,in 1958, a 14 year old country girl from a one room school, was a memorable experience. Always supportive and jovial, he has remained a special friend through the years. Our Grade 13 graduating class became a cohesive group, meeting for reunions through the years and always picking up where we left off, even after a separation of a few years. Our partners and spouses became an integral part of that group of friends. Dick and I are thinking of your family, with love and sympathy, Barb Thompson (Watson)
To Dave's "loved ones", Dave was a super person and we made several purchases from him over the years including our first "color" television and our first DVD player. We always left the store happy and feeling good about our latest purchase. Dave was community minded and a big part of the downtown community and will be missed by many. Our sympathy to you
Prayers for Dave and his family. R.i.p.

Will miss my Uncle Dave very much. While we hadn’t had much face to face contact in recent years due to geography, our once-in-a-while exchanges on Facebook and Messenger were always appreciated. I’ll always recall fondly our friendly conversations about business and finance (and our “agree-to-disagree” debates about politics), and many visits to Rice Lake – especially the old “Lilac Lodge” where Dave taught me to waterski at around age 8. May he finally Rest In Peace, and may God grant Aunt Linda the strength to carry on as matriarch of the tightly-knit Tredree clan. Love to all.
Very sad to hear of Dave's passing. He was a character for sure. I vividly remember going into his store in downtown Cobourg on many occasions to buy or (trade) items for CHUC Radio. In the early days, when one entered the store, Dave would have a phone "Attached" to his ear and he would walk throughout the store, sometimes over many boxes and around corners with that phone cord in tow wrapped around everything in sight, sometimes to a length of 50 or so feet. He certainly did speak his mind and shared his thoughts with anyone who was within earshot. He will be missed. To Linda and the entire Tredree family, our thoughts and prayers are with you today
