We will always remember Betty and Don for introducing us to Amway as a selling product, and Betty's involvement in council and keeping an eye on their agenda. Both were very involved in community and many innovative things. Betty and Don were always so friendly with others and made everyone feel so welcome.

To Allan,Terry and Nancy and Rick and families:In spite of dementia Betty was struggling to keep her independence but needed her family and caregivers to care for her. This was not the Betty I knew but a shadow of who she had been.Independent, strong minded, intelligent are just a few adjectives I’d describe my eldest sister. We have lost our bridge to the past and we will just have to ask each other and wonder how Betty would have answered.Sadly we will all miss her for her important role in our lives.RIP Betty ,my big sister.

I will miss you Betty - my good neighbour for 45 years. She was a strong, smart, fiesty force to be reckoned with - the Matriarch of the Carruthers Clan, many who continue as 5th Generation Farmers In Haldimand area. Her interests & passion centred on Farm Land Protection & Preservation. She attended countless Haldimand Township Council Meetings zeroing in on Farms/Severances/& Proposed Land Developments.....getting copies of Meeting Minutes to study. She wrote many published "Letters to the Editor" of local papers expressing her Concerns/Opinions. You NEVER had to ask Betty her Opinion - She'd Tell You! She had a No Nonsense Attitude & was totally involved in Rural Politics. Thanks Betty! Sincere Condolences to all the Carruthers, Relatives, Friends & Neighbours. RIP Betty - Farmers Do Feed Cities (& Everyone Else)

Betty was a real power house that kept the politicians on their toes, did thorough research on an issue and was an impressive activist and advocate - one of the first activists I met when we first moved to Haldimand township in 1994. I greatly admired her and especially her tenacity. My sympathies to all of her family.
Dear Nancy and Rick and family. Sorry to hear of your Mom's passing. Our condolences.
Though no longer here, physically, forever here in heart and memories. A force to be reckoned with, a smile that lit the room, eyes that could dance with joy or make you behave, in an instancne, in a classroom. Embraced life, family and friends with exuberance. Yes, her leaving has left a "hole" - fill that hole with every memory you have..... every time you bring one of them out there will be tears, or joy, laughter, remembering. She isn't gone, she's in each of your family members, she's part of any person that ever had the privilege to know her. God's strength and comfort, His guiding hand, His love surround you all. Julie

My Great aunt Betty always fascinated me. Although my visits with her were few to the farm they made quite an impression in forming my world view. My earliest memories are quite romantic feeding the geese and chickens and visiting the pigs. Aunt Betty was not one to gush to hug and kiss when I would visit. She would have serious discussions, ask me thought provoking questions. I learned to listen for her witty sarcasm delivered with the straightest of faces with only a mischievous twinkle in her eye and a slight smile with her eyes. She was an active participant in democracy-her dining table a veritable filing cabinet of any number of projects. Information to be found speedily from one of the many piles. She questioned decisions being made and I think of her each time I look at and correct minutes of a meeting I have participated in. She was the last of my grandmother Jean (née Carruthers) Stewart's generation. My love goes out to Allan and Nancy and your growing families.
Mrs. Carruther’s taught me on various occasions as a kid. Always lots of fun and very fair. She still spoke and remember me many years after and we enjoyed running into each other. A life well lived.
So many connections to Betty and her family. Our condolences to all. Gord & Marg
