Donald Warwick Perry

August 2, 1929 - June 11, 2022

Donald Warwick Perry passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Saturday June 11, 2022 in his 93rd year.
Don was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario on August 2, 1929. He was a seaman at heart, first with the Merchant Marines during WWII and after the war, he worked sailing the Great Lakes. He also worked with CN in Northern Ontario as a lineman where he learned to speak French, one of the many languages he spoke, with a proficiency in profanity excelling at the more colorful verbs. When he met and married the love of his life, Mary Jean Lackey, he pursued a career with Bell Canada where he worked for 35 years, the last 4 years in Saudi Arabia. He had countless long-lasting friendships with so many of his fellow Bell employees, his childhood friends and many others he met along the way, all of whom he considered family and oddly all were named Herb. He was a master storyteller and never forgot a detail, a date, a name or a place. He was a devoted parishioner of Trinity-St. Andrews United Church in Brighton and a passionate member of their choir. You would be hard pressed to find a more dedicated and eternally optimistic Leaf, Argos or Blue Jays fan. Most of all, Don loved his family. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy.
After his retirement, he and Jean (who he referred to as Jane) moved from Toronto to a farm in the Northumberland Hills where they spent many happy years creating and caring for the most beautiful flower, fruit and vegetable gardens. Throughout his life Don was an avid traveler; he was never happier than when he was planning for his next trip. He spent the last eight years in Brighton, Ontario with his great friend, Terry Brown, with whom he shared many happy holidays and created many happy memories.
He was very much loved by his three children, Michael (Jane), David (Carroll) and Martha (Guy) and was a cherished “Puppa” to Holly, Owen (Jacky), Garrett (Meghan), Natalie, Alexandra (Brock) and Calum and his Great Grandson, Eadon. He will be dearly missed by his sister Liz (Penny) Martin, his sisters-in-law Betty Oliver and Ruth Jones, as well as many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at Trinity-St. Andrew’s United Church in Brighton on Monday June 20th, 2022 at 12 noon. Visiting will be held in the church from 11 am – 12 noon. Friends and family are invited to attend a reception in the church hall following the service. Interment in Shiloh Cemetery. The family ask that all those attending the service to wear masks. If desired donations may be made to Trinity-St. Andrew’s United Church, Brighton, Friends of Dundonald or Shiloh Cemetery.
