MESSAGES OF CONDOLENCE / DONATIONS

Ruth Rideout - August 9, 2022

I was saddened when I received your phone call, Lauren, to think that such a talented woman had passed. My grandsons were recipients of the Quilt Fairy's wonderfully warm and beautifully crafted quilts. I first met Beth in at competitions. about 1981 or 1982 in a dresssing room in the Sunderland arena. This was our Accounting Room and I was her volunteer. From the first day I met Beth, I loved her sense of humour, work ethic, and kindness. I learned at Divisionals in Bowmanville that mornings were not Beth's best time of day and that it was best to stay away from her and let her do her paperwork. She and Betty were the dynamic duo for competitions. She and I retired from Data Specialists and Club volunteers together in 2009. It was a pleasure to know her.

It’s been so nice reading all of the ways Grandma impacted the people around her long before or in ways we never knew her! She was determined, spicy and created a large family filled with children, grandchildren and more that I am so thankful and proud to be a part of! Her impact won’t go unremembered and we will miss her deeply. Rest peacefully grandma - we love you!

Denise C. Burnham - June 8, 2022

Dear Jack and family, It has taken me a few days to actually find the words to adequately express just how important a person Beth was to me. I met her for the first time about 32 years ago in an accounting room at a skating competition. She and Betty Underhill were knee deep in paperwork, smoking, laughing and sharing what I assume was more than coffee in those mugs! We became fast friends immediately and I was so fortunate that Beth became apart of my world. There are not enough adjectives to explain the aura of Beth. Over the years, through many life circumstances I could always depend on Beth to be the person to bounce things off of, to laugh or cry with, to swim or sew with for hours, to enjoy outdoor concerts and picnics with, she was just the best person to spend fun quality time with. I will miss her in many ways, her wisdom, her intellect, her humour and mostly her laughter. Please accept my condolences, you are all in my prayers.

Shawna Foxton - June 7, 2022

My sincere condolences to Mr. Alma and all the generations of the Alma family who loved her very much. My childhood would not have been the same without her. I met Jennifer on the first day of Kindergarten and we have been friends ever since. Beth had an accepting way about her that made me feel there was nothing i could ever do or say that would shock her or make her judge me. She embraced me and so many other friends of her kids' as just more stray cats that could use a good meal and a place to hang out. I came from a stable home it's just the farm was so much more fun and chaotic. I felt depressed when the weekend sleepovers ended. She told me once that it was sometimes better not knowing what your kids are up to. I really wished my parents were more like that. Beth was always very down-to-earth and never missed a chance to help someone in need. I remember how she made a couple of 3 pc. suits available to some boys in our Grade 8 class for graduation who couldn't afford to buy them..but it was done quietly and i only found out many years later. I can still see her mischievous eyes when she laughed. She usually threw in a few curse words too, never wanting you to think she was too precious to appreciate life in all it's ridiculous and dark forms. She was a very capable woman who could sew, bake and preserve all manner of farm fresh produce like a boss! She knew the right way to do things and she appreciated quality. The life she had in a farmhouse full of crazy kids and their crazier friends seemed to amuse her despite her grumblings about it. No matter what hit the fan, there was a laugh in there somewhere. I could go on but I'll just say, you will be missed, Beth. Rest in Peace.
