Laura Eldora Eagleson-Buttars (nee: Spicer) passed away peacefully on April 20, 2022, in her 97th year at the Northumberland Hills Hospital. Eldora was a loving devoted wife to Amos Eagleson (1997) and Gord Buttars (2018). Cherished mother of David (Sharon) Heather (Dalton), and Bryce (Susan). She was the adored granny to 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was the loved sister of her brother Leo Spicer (2021) and his wife Dorothy and their family. She is fondly remembered by Gordon’s children Wayne, Sandra, Carmen Allan and their families. She was raised on a farm near Campbellcroft and moved to Port Hope at the age of 18. In 1947 she married Amos and moved to the farm at Cold Springs. She immersed herself into the tight knit farm community especially her church family. Always willing to help whoever needed her. She was kind, compassionate, caring and loved her family without reservation. Eldora was tenacious in her faith with a belief that with hard work, prayer and a little help from God, all problems could be overcome. The name Eldora in Greek, American and Spanish means “gift of the sun” and in Teutonic means “gift of Wisdom”. How aptly both describe our mother, Eldora. She has been our “sun” and our “wisdom” our whole lives. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Landmark Assisted Living Extendicare for all their loving care and friendship. A burial will take place at Cold Springs Pioneers Memorial Cemetery. A reception will be held at MacCoubrey Funeral Home 30 King Street East, Cobourg, Ontario K9A 1K7 Sunday, May 15, 2022, from 1:00 – 3:00 PM. All those in attendance to the reception will be required to wear a mask. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Northumberland Hills Hospital Foundation or Lupus Ontario.

Deepest sympathy David,Heather,Bryce and families.Many wonderful memories of Eldora and Amos over the years being cousins and neighbours.Spent many hours over there when I was young filling silo working in the fields as my dad and his brothers and Amos worked back and forth helping each other in the early years.Always looked forward to the wonderful meals Eldora would make.
