Peacefully at the Northumberland Hills Hospital, on Wednesday April 20th, 2022 in her 84th year. Beloved wife Gordon James. Loving mother of Brian James (Helena), Paul James (Bev), Wendy Pilon (Alvin) and Janis Birrell (David). Dear grandmother of Greg, Emily, Matthew, Laura, Sam, Rosalind, Lucy and Kevin. Joan is survived by her brother Roy Hargrave (Nethe) and pre-deceased by brother Donald and sisters Florence and Violet. Visitation will be held on Wednesday May 4th at the MacCoubrey Funeral Home, 30 King St., E., Cobourg from 1-2 pm., followed by service at 2 pm. Cremation with interment in Vernonville cemetery at a later date. If desired donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Joan James was the mother of my best friends, Helena and Brian James. She welcomed me into her family with loving arms. One of the most kind and gentle women I have ever known. Bless you Joan. It was an honour to know and love you. Your absence will be deeply felt.

We are sad hearing of Joan’s passing away. We have stayed a few days with her and Gord while being on vacation with our daughter Sandy in Canada with Brian and Helena. Together we visited 1000 islands with a boat tour. Joan was really really a lovely woman. Thanks for knowing you. Goodbye.

She was my soprano partner at church and we relied on each other to make our songs delightful for such a small choir! She always had a smile and was such a joy to be around!
