It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the sudden passing of Greg. Greg passed away at home, in his 61st year on Thursday, February 10, 2022. Beloved husband of Jackie Monahan. Cherished father of Kenny Mayhew (Andrea) and Justin (Rebecca). Proud grandfather to Emma. Son-in-law to Marie Vandewater whom he lovingly called “Maw”. Loved brother-in-law to Thomas Bethell (Paula) and Gwen West (David). He will be greatly missed by his niece Ramona Bethell (J.D.) and his many nephews, Thomas Bethell, (Courtney), Robert Bethell, (Emily), David West, (Lucy) Christopher West (Alicia) and Brandon West (Rachel). Predeceased by his parents Jackie and Donald Monahan. Survived by his sister Lindy Monahan (Meredith). Loved nephew of Beverly Gervais (Marc) and Nancy (John) Blair. He leaves behind many cousins and extended family and friends. He will be missed by his special friends, Richard and Malena Osborne and family, and Brian Armishaw. Greg passed away suddenly at home in his sleep due to complications from Hydrocephalus. He was born in Englehart, Ontario and moved to Toronto in his early teens. Family was Job #1 to Greg. He was a loving and caring partner to Jackie, extremely proud of his two boys Kenny and Justin, and adored his two ‘daughters’ Andrea and Rebecca. He doted on and spoiled his precious granddaughter, Emma. We will all miss his sense of humour and his unconditional love. Greg was a meat cutter, at Longo Brother Supermarkets for many years and adored his Longos Family, He recently joined Your Independent Grocery store in Port Hope and loved meeting new customers and building relationships with his colleagues there. Having recently relocated to Cobourg, Ontario, he was getting to know his family on the “Family Court” and loved watching the children playing outside each day. His passions included the Leafs, wildlife photography, Led Zeppelin, fishing and ‘scratchies’. Greg will be missed by Brooklyn but reunited with his pup Dakota – long may you run .. together. Thank you to Dr. Cifelli for his ongoing care and support. If desired a donation may be made to Hydrocephalus Canada @ mybrainwaves.ca in Greg’s memory. In respect of Greg’s wishes, a private family service has taken place. A Celebration of Greg’s Life will take place in the Spring.

No words can express my sorrow nor ease your pain. It was a pleasure to work with Greg . Our talks about our families really brightened the work day. His love of family really shone through especially when finding out what his granddaughter was up too. He was truly a cut above, and will be missed!

Pedro Gomez - February 16, 2022

My deepest condolences to the family. I can’t not put into words how sad to hear about Greg. I worked with him closely at Longos Applewood as one of my meat cutters. Which grew into a friendship. It was always great to walk into work and see his big smile. Ready to make your day. He loved talking about his family, his dog, and of course the leafs. I have so many memories of him and it saddens me that I won’t be hearing from him as we still kept in contact after so many years of not working together. I will cherish all our memories together for the rest of my life. Thank you Greg for being such a beautiful soul. I will truly miss you my friend.

You were only on the court a short time but you really left a mark with your scaring all the kids and your surprise firecrackers. You were so full of energy. I would frequently find the court kids gathered around your garage “bugging” you. The kids still think you might be just hiding somewhere again to play a joke on them. I’ll miss all the talks of wildlife and your amazing pictures of the fox who was always hanging around. You’ll never know that 2 foxes showed up together the night you passed to eat the food you had left them under our camera. There’s never been more then one fox on the court before. Our condolences to the family. Everyone on the court is there for you. He always talked about how proud he was of his family and he definitely moved to the right place for the last time. For such a short time being here, He is unbelievably missed by everyone on the court.

Brenda Neufeld (Cousin) - February 14, 2022

My deepest condolences to the family, Greg was an amazing guy, you could count on a joke, smile and laughter, where ever there was laughter, Greg was the reason, we had some amazing times, he would come in 30 minutes before his shift, just to talk, about anything and everything, Leafs, his Dog, the photos he took on the weekend at his trailer, would bring in his portfolio and show his pictures, he would talk about his family, he was so proud of his children, and a proud man himself, truly will miss him.

I have been a good friend of Greg since meeting him here at Applewood, he'll be missed. I am so shocked to hear about his passing, I just messaged him on Friday and found it weird my friend didn't message me back yet. Only to see on a co-workers post of his passing a day later hurt me more ways then one. I loved that guy his jokes and his passion in his stories about his son and wife will be forever missed. Sorry to everyone affected by his loss, we will all miss him in our own special way

We were so deeply saddened to hear of Greg's sudden passing. He was such a joy to have on the "family court". Always had a big smile on his face and friendly hello dear everytime we met on the street. I would quite often yell out the door, "pick me the winner" when he would walk by the house to get his lottery tickets down at the corner store. We will really miss him and send our sincere condolences to the entire family at this sad time. May he rest in peace.
