On Friday, February 4, 2022, John Leonard (Len) Cummings, loving husband and father of three children passed away at age 82.
Len was born in Warrington, England. He started his education at Oxford University, was awarded his Mechanical Engineering degree at Lancashire and Cheshire Institutes and his Industrial Engineering certificate from the National Institute of Industrial Engineers. On September 25, 1965, he married Sheila (Mather) Cummings and together they courageously left England, their families and friends in search of something better in Canada. Len worked as an Industrial Engineer and a Logistic Manager at Kraft General Foods in Cobourg for 25 years. Settling in Port Hope, they raised their three children, Ian, Jayne and Julie.
Len had a passion for sports and was an avid cricket, baseball, golf and dart player. His true love was football and watching the premier league cheering on his team, Manchester United. Len enjoyed gardening, jazz, was a true storyteller but was at his best when surrounded by his family. He was the first to crack a beer (or two) for just about any reason as long as family or friends were involved.
Len leaves behind his wife of 56 years, Sheila, his son Ian and partner Marie, his daughter Jayne and partner Liz, his daughter Julie and partner Greg, his daughter in law, Sheri and his grandchildren Liam and Van.
There will be no service at this time and the family asks instead that you raise a glass and toast Len. Please donate to the Canadian Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.
God saw you getting tired, a cure was not to be
So he put his arms around you and whispered ‘come to me’.
With tearful eyes we watched you and saw you pass away
Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay.
A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest
God broke our hearts to prove to us, he only takes the best.
I enjoyed every chat I had with Len. Such an interesting, enjoyable nice man. My prayers and thoughts are with Sheila and the family. Bill Robb Pharmacy 101
