Sarah "Sadie" Barr

August 23, 1935 - February 2, 2022

It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden and peaceful passing of Sarah “Sadie” Barr, 86 years of age, at the Northumberland Hills Hospital in Cobourg on Wednesday, February 2nd, 2022. Beloved wife of William “Bill” Barr for 54 years. Cherished mother of Siobhan Barr (Richard Wagner) and Sarah Anne Barr. Loving grandmother of Cameron and Katherine. Dear sister of James Dyer (the late Kay) and Bernard Dyer (Anne-Marie).
Born in Renton, Scotland, Sadie, Billy, and daughters emigrated to Montreal, QC, in 1980. Once finally retired, Sadie and Billy relocated to Cobourg, ON, in 2006, where they continued to enjoy spending time with treasured friends (new and old) and neighbours. Sadie had many interests, but the love for her family was what she cherished most. That undying love will be carried on by all of her family (near and far) by whom she will be greatly missed.
A Requiem Mass will be held at St Michael’s Catholic Church (Corner of University Ave and Division St) on Friday, February 11th at 10 am followed by a reception at the Columbus Community Centre (Corner of Spencer St. E. and Darcy St.). While the Mass is open to all guests wearing masks and social distancing the Reception is a full vaccination event and those attending must show proof of full vaccination and id. Due to covid restrictions there are a limited number of attendees allowed and those wishing to attend the Mass and/or reception MUST REGISTER ON-LINE at the funeral home web site. Those wishing may make a memorial donation to the Northumberland Hills Hospital Foundation in memory of Sadie.

To dear Bill & family, We are so saddened by this news of Sadie’s passing… we enjoyed her joy and friendship from the first time we met you both when you drove through New Amherst and stopped to talk to us. From that time on, we have wonderful memories of the times we gathered in the neighborhood or sat on your front porch in the sunshine. The latter years have tested Sadie’s health but her spirit never wavered and her faith stood strong. Now she rests in the nearer presence of her God. Bill, may you know strength and a peace that is beyond our human understanding. We are in Florida at this time but know we hold you and your family in our prayers and will be thinking of you in particular on Friday…
