Dorothy Jean Clark

May 14, 1922 - January 14, 2022

Our beloved Mother passed away January 14, 2022 in advance of her 100th birthday May 14, 2022. She was predeceased by her parents Robert and Gertrude Sloat, her husband Donald M. Clark, her son Dr. Douglas M. Clark, and her two brothers and their wives Robert and Margaret and Donald and Ann Sloat. She is survived by her children Janice and Brian, Bruce and Kathy, Jennifer and Michael, and Ian and Debbie. She was beloved of 19 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. Although Dorothy was accepted at the Hamilton General Hospital to study nursing she declined acceptance as she wished to assist in the WW2 war effort. Hence she worked with Otis-Fensom Elevator Company during the war. Marrying immediately after the war, she became a full-time wife and mother. Dorothy was an artist who painted with oils and found her inspiration for her paintings in nature, especially at her cottage on Georgian Bay and through years of walking the Bruce Trails in the Niagara region. She studied art with Matthew Kousal of Waterloo, Ontario. She learned the art of cake decorating and created extraordinarily beautiful wedding cakes. Dorothy and her mother were avid shoppers who found the best of sales. She loved entertaining and was a good friend to her nieces, nephews, neighbours, and friends. She had a deep Christian faith which sustained her throughout her life. She was a member of Shoreacres Bible Chapel. She strongly advocated feeding the children of the world and supported them through organizations such as World Vision. Any donation toward looking after children would be appreciated.
A special thanks goes out to her neighbours in Stoney Creek and Grimsby who supported her living on her own until she was 98 years of age, to Teresa Kuzminski who attentively looked after Mother for over a decade, and to PSWs working with Ontario March of Dimes. A private virtual celebration of her life is being arranged. A private burial will take place.

Your MOM has a special place in my heart. She will be remembered by us as a loving supportive "Mom" She chose to accept me as a family friend in my association with the "CLARK " kids I admired her much for her anchored faith in God. We fondly remember her smile and character

I am so very sorry to learn of Dorothy's passing. She had an amazing ability to draw out a person's life story within 15 minutes of meeting them. My condolences to her family.

Shirley O'Brien - January 25, 2022

My condolences to all of Dorothy's family. I met her last February through Amanda Clark and her family. As a home care worker I looked after her personal needs. Ian and Priscilla provided everything she needed. What a full & remarkable life she had. Dorothy transitioned to her Heavenly home into the glorious presence of her Lord and Savior. I look forward to meeting her soon in Heaven.

Mom was the best Mom anyone could hope for in so many ways. Her life shone bright and she was always looking to encourage others along the way. Her marriage to Dad was exemplary and beautiful to witness. I enjoyed being the youngest and was raised well by the time I showed up on the scene. Dad was a disciplinarian old school style and has been gone now for 26 years. Mom passed away only 10 days shy of the 26th anniversary of Dads departure! Mom is sorely missed and it was an honour to spend every day of her last year on earth with her. She was so sweet and was always concerned about being a burden. We would always remind her that her presence with us was totally cherished and it was a pleasure to serve her and care for her to her last day. She was such a diligent individual who was strongly opinionated and stood her ground all the way to the last breath. It was very sorrowful you see her broken heart as she gave in to moving on from this realm. Thankfully her passing was swift with minimal physical suffering. She is reunited with the love of her life and God is smiling on them now…

To all the family, sincere sympathy on the loss of dear Dorothy. She was always so hospitable, so incredibly gifted in so many ways, who challenged me to think more deeply about issues, and whose faith in God and His Word was unshakeable. She is now receiving her 'Well done, good and faithful servant...'. But we will miss her so much. To all her family, you were blessed to have her as your mother/grandmother.....
