Peacefully at Ed’s House, Cobourg, on Friday, January 21, 2022, at the age of 82. Beloved husband of Jennifer (nee Gladden). Loving father of David (Tammy) and Suzan (Shawn Hope). Cherished grandfather of Cal (Josh), Kira-Lynn, Amanda (Kyle), Krista and James. Dear great grandfather of Kolton and Hunter. Brother of the late Dorothy (the late Robert) Visser. Brother-in-law of Frank (Marg) Gladden and Dawn (the late Dick) Coe. A private celebration of Doug’s life will be held. Donations to Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice or to the Help Centre of Northumberland (CHEQUES ONLY) would be appreciated by the family.

Cynthia and I are so sorry to hear that Doug has passed away. I remember the many talks we had over the years at Brookside. Every time Doug came into my office, we would always have a laugh or two and a good conversation. He was a wonderful person and always a gentleman. When you work 30 plus years with a man like Doug you get to know him pretty well. Doug did his job well, was always a gentleman, and always treated his coworkers with respect. To some it might be a small thing but he once permanently switched with me his weekends off so that my wife(nurse on shift) and I could have a weekend off together. I will never forget that kindness. Dear Wink and family, I got to know Doug through the Legal Clinic. I was a new board member about 16 years ago, and Doug was so good at 'showing me the ropes'. I moved away more than 10 years ago, but Doug's friendship has remained. I am so sorry about this passing, for you and your family, but for the Cobourg community as well. Doug was great at sending along really good clergy jokes(all sorts of them). I often wondered if his Anglican minister received these as well. Dear Jennifer and family, We knew that Doug was very ill and we have been praying for him daily. Please accept our deepest condolences. Doug was a real institution around St Peter's Church. For years, he was such a loyal leader of the Sidesperson team and well known in our Men's Club. Also, he and Jennifer were leaders of the Thursday Night Light Program at St Peter's.
