Christopher Matthews, 57, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on December 16th, 2021. He was strengthened in these years and final hours by the tenacious loving care of his beloved partner Kelly and children Annie (Kieran) and Thomas. Chris was predeceased by his father John Matthews in 2018. He is survived by his mother Jill, siblings Graham (Clare) and Justine Fenna (Erik). Uncle Big Chris will also be dearly missed by nephews Ben (Tasha) & Chris (Courtney), great-niece Delaney, nephew Alex and niece Lara. The family’s grief is shared with more huge-hearted and committed friends than one could ever list, in England, Guelph, Kincardine and Cobourg.
Chris worked very hard but loved leisure companionship. This could be a game of ping pong or out on the golf course or sailboat. He was always up for simple times in the company of loved ones, around a bonfire or listening to music. Chris’ mom, and friends in England, will remember a tall lad, sharp as a whip, walking the entire length of the street on his hands.
His friends from Guelph shared many late-night antics and early morning work at Zehrs and university. Many stories and laughs will be shared in the weeks to come. Chris continued to win friends with his loyalty and good nature while living in Kincardine and Baltimore. And once again in remembering Chris we will laugh and there will be stories to tell, (and not all of them involve sinking the sailboat)!
Chris was blessed with his children Annie and Thomas and supported them in every way. He lay motionless for hours when they were little and sick and needed to lie on Daddy’s tummy. He played Bad Weasels and shared Frank Herbert novels. He provided for them in many ways and did not want to leave them.
An analytical, quick-witted, stubborn, and soft-hearted man, Chris had met his match in his devoted partner Kelly. She was his perfect companion and love, turned caregiver much too soon. The rest of the family is so appreciative of the dignity and security her efforts provided Chris over the last years.
Kelly, Annie, and Thomas wish to thank Dr. Blouin, Dr. Mulé and Saint Elizabeth Health Care for their guidance and support. A celebration of life has been tentatively planned for springtime of 2022. In lieu of flowers, charities and causes that are supported by the family are Dying with Dignity Canada, the Canadian Cancer Society, and the Prostate Cancer Fight Foundation.

Kelly , Annie, Thomas , Graham, Justine and Jill, my heart breaks for you all. Chris and I have been friends for about 42 years as you all know. Along with Jon we had so many good times. I still laugh about all the fun we had. I also remember so many great times at the Matthews house where we were always welcome. I will have lots of pictures and stories to share with you all. Thank you Kelly for your love and care. All my love, Michelle
