Helen Walker

October 7, 1927 - December 12, 2021

Passed away at home with her family. Beloved wife of the late George Walker, loving mother to Heather Powell (David) and Alison Ploen (Axel). Cherished grandmother of James Powell (Paige), Ursula Doucette (Alex), Lesley (Marten) and Bryan Ploen. Born in Manitoba, Helen worked at the Childrens Hospital in Winnipeg, transfering to Sick Kids in Toronto when they moved to Ontario. Helen and George came to this area in 1969 and made it their home. She worked at the Cobourg Public Library for many years, both at the Chapel Street location and on King Street. She loved music and was one of the founding members of the NOC in 1978. Right up until the start of the pandemic she played her violin in both the orchestra and with the Corktown Fiddlers. A member of both Trinity United Church and Bethesda/Rural Faith United Church. A Memorial Service/Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Donations in Helen's memory may be made to the Northumberland Orchestra and Choir.

Deepest sympathies to all of Helen's family - I have great respect for Helen - she was a regular in my fitness class at the Y until she was 88 when she told me she had to leave the class because of her age - very impressive that she played the violin into her 90's - a fine lady indeed

Brad Halls - December 15, 2021

To Heather, Alison and all the members of the Walker family - my wife Heather and I were saddened to hear today of the death of Mrs. Walker. We had enjoyed knowing her during our many years living and working in Cobourg, and also enjoyed knowing that she had lived in Fergus (where both of us grew up and now live once again), and reminiscing about there years there when i remember your father teaching at Fergus High School. We also shared a mutual love of music, and it was always delightful to see her contributing her talents in the local symphony. But most of all we will remember her friendliness and warmth whenever we had the chance to meet. I am sure you will have a lifetime of wonderful memories of her to comfort you n what I am sure are some difficult days. Brad Halls, 670 St. David Street South, Fergus (formerly of Cobourg)
