I knew Morley and Gloria through my folks Doug and Isabel Wright, and I just came across this sad news. With a great life comes a great loss and I would like to express my sincere condolences to the entire Philp family. What a legacy. Morley and Gloria welcomed my parents to Port Hope in 1982 and they remained valued friends for the rest of their lives. I remember mom being so pleased when Gloria would scurry up the hill with some of her lovely buns, and I also had the pleasure of having her fresh strawberry pie. I can’t even describe how good it was, and often remember it during strawberry season. Not surprising, she was humble with the praise and I hope her pastry touch has been passed down. I remember the tender loving care she gave her flower gardens and again, would come up the hill with a bunch of beautiful fresh blooms for Mom. In fact, when Mom passed, she sent what she hoped would be a perfect yellow rose arrangement. I remember her telling me she wanted the rose to be just perfect and was disappointed that in her mind, it wasn’t. I thought it was perfect, particularly because she had chosen yellow which is the symbol of friendship, and what dear friends they were. Thank you Gloria, and Rest in Peace.
Blair Barry, Craig, Paula and all the rest of Gloria’s family. You may not remember me, I’m the oldest daughter of Doug and Isabel Wright who were across the Dale Road from your parents. I just heard that your Mom passed and I am so, so sorry for your loss. She was certainly a wonderful lady and a great friend to Mom and Dad. They greatly valued her friendship (and your Dad’s too) and always spoke so highly of her. And she was so important to Mom after Dad passed away. Our two old girls were great friends, supported each other and were very special. I had the privilege of meeting your mom several times and she always impressed me with her kindness, caring and sense of family. And, she put me to shame with her high energy levels. And she walked faster than I ran even in her late 80s! She left an amazing family legacy: kids, grandkids, great grandkids and great great grandkids. She was the head of 5 generations and I know she set the bar high for all. She was a lovely person and you will miss her greatly. Your wonderful memories will comfort you as you miss her and mourn her loss. Thinking of you in your time of loss. Nancy Carefoote
It was pre-Covid while grocery shopping that I last saw your mother. While chatting with her I mentioned her uncanny resemblance to Mrs Marion Davidson. Well, she chuckled and gave me a quick lesson in genealogy. I guess that I had forgotten that they were cousins. Before saying goodbye I told her that our youngest son’s name was Morley. She smiled and said that it was a lovely name. Sending our sincere condolences. Paul and Anita Simonsen
