First I would like to extend my deepest sympathy to Bobby's family and friends. I am very sorry for your loss. I did not know Bobby very well except for a couple of years I went golfing with " The Gang " in Myrtle Beach.... I wasn't a very good golfer and Bobby got the challenge of sharing his golf cart with me. Although aĺl the guys were great, Bobby showed never ending patience with me and even showed me a few things that I still use to this day. If he could show so much patience to a person he barely knew I can only imagine what a great person he was to his friends and family... I am sure he will be missed.

To Karen and family, Watching Bob’s funeral on line, hearing all the wonderful stories, told by friends and family, I couldn’t help but think what a wonderful, and meaningful life Bob had. He was the kind of man to bring life, joy, and laughter to any place he entered and I’m sure friends and family knew the party only began once Bob arrived. It’s a very special person indeed to live a life of light and to embrace everyone in it. We were blessed to know Bob for a short time but we were touched like all the others in his life and accepted as friends. Only wish we could have spent more time getting to know Bob and Karen as a couple. The last event was Dave’s birthday in September. We are so glad to have that memory of a wonderful evening with Bob and Karen. God bless you Karen and your wonderful family. Please accept our heart felt condolences.

I got to work closer with Bob these past 18 months, and it became clear to me that he was a strong leader, a shrewd businessperson, and a good friend. He was instrumental in making ETC a success in Canada, and we will be eternally grateful for his close partnership. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and colleagues. He will be missed!
We’ve lost an integral component of the industry. It will take many to fill the gap and it still won’t be the same. It's sucks to even think that I won’t see Bob’s infectious smile greet me at all those familiar places that I have for decades.
I first met Bob in 2005 at the CITT conference that year. He heard me checking in to the conference hotel, and made it a point to wait until I was done, and then introduce himself and welcomed me to CITT. I couldn't have asked for a better welcome to the organization! That began years of Bob and I keeping casually in touch, enjoying some laughs together, and him always being available if I needed help. A true leader in every sense of the word, and a true friend. He will be sorely missed.
Sending our heartfelt sympathy to Karen and family at this most difficult and sad time. Being neighbours at Wollaston Lake for many years, we know how much Bob enjoyed life. May fond memories sustain all of you during this time. Sincerely, John and Mary Hogg
Getting to know Bob was one of the greatest privileges and to lose him so young feels so cruel. We won’t ever forget his kindness and smiling face and his legacy will live on. Sending our deepest condolences to Karen, Mark and family.

Bob was someone special, I will cherish his mentorship, friendship and wisdom. My sincere condolences to family and friends.
I am so shocked to hear of Bob’s passing. Our heartfelt sympathies to Karen, Ryan, Stephanie and your entire family. Russ & Wendy
Stephanie, I am so sorry for your loss. My thoughts are with you. Jannine. Xoxo
I've had the privilege of knowing Bob for more than 35 years. During that time we alternated between being collaborators and competitors. Through it all Bob remained a friend and we had many frank discussions about the industry and life in general. The world and the entertainment industry is poorer with his passing. He will be greatly missed.
I send my heartfelt sympathies to Bob's family and friends. He hired me to join his sales team just last year in the spring, right before the pandemic hit. So I had the pleasure of meeting him twice in person for my interviews and then once just last September for a client visit. Never would I have imagined that was going to be the last time. I had hoped to learn so much more from him and experience his mentorship more, like so many speak of. The pandemic, of course, put a wrench in that as well. I wish I had been able to get to know him better and longer. He was always wise, kind and supportive - he always had encouraging words. We did get to bond a bit over our mutual connection to Scarborough where I live. Turns out he went to the same high school as my husband. It was very clear from all our conversations that he had an immense love for his family. How proudly he always spoke of his grandbabies. We would see their sweet image every two weeks in our sales meetings because that was his Zoom profile photo. It is so hard and disruptive to lose the patriarch of the family, especially one so larger than life and who took of everyone. He lives on in your memories and dreams and will surely show himself in his grandchildren in the years as they grow. My condolences and wishes for strength and togetherness for your family. RIP Bob.

My deepest condolences to Karen, Ryan, Stephanie, Mark and all of Bob's family. Bob was a great mentor to me. Always a big presence in a room or even over the phone, you could count on him for support and wisdom when needed. He always had a smile, a story, or an ear to listen, and nothing in the world was more important to Bob than his family. I will miss him very much. May he rest easy.
Karen, Stephanie, Devon, Ryan, Erin & family - Jordan and I send our sincerest condolences to you all. Bob had such a kind, generous heart and a rocking sense of humour. We are so incredibly appreciative for the impact Bob and your family has had in our lives. We are sure Bob and Rob are cracking jokes and causing a ruckus together again.

Sorry to hear the sad news last week We had a lot of good times over the years… may he rest peacefully ☺️
It really hard to put into words the impact Bob had on me, and the people in our industry. As someone coming into an industry as the youngest guy in the room Bob was there to welcome me, mentor me, and make sure that I was welcome in any room we were both in. From restaurants in Vegas to wineries in Niagara, Bob was always the life of the party, and could put a smile on anyones face. I will always cherish the times with Bob, and the impact the late night chats had on my personal and professional life. We has lost I titan who was there for everyone, who always encouraged everyone to be "all pro". My condolences to Bobs family, the pride and love he had for you was evident to everyone who spoke with him.
How do I begin to express how sad and devastated I am about Bob leaving us so soon ? My heart is heavy for everyone that the time and and pleasure of having Bob in their life. Over thirty years of friendship built on countless memories created a very special and unique bond that I will cherish forever. The first time I met Bob, I help fish him out of the water at Gladstone in Malibu. He was fully dress in his Armani suit , tie and was determined to swim to Catalina Island... Jim Harp , I know you remember the whole story and we still laugh about that crazy evening. Meeting Bob that night started the beginning of many unbelievable stories. Only Bob could do justice in retelling stories as a natural storyteller he was... To know Bob was to know his family as he was a family man first in the strongest sense. Karen and the Kids were the most important part of his life. Whenever we spoke, one of the first things he would tell was how the family was doing. He was so proud of Stephany and Ryan and love being a grandad. I call him my Canadian brother because our friendship felt more like we were brothers, one from Canada and one from France ... I will miss my Canadian brother dearly and will cherish the memories forever. Bonjour La Visite !!

I met Bob when I was 21 years old and working at Canadian Staging Projects. His career journey took him from WFW to working in the USA then back to Canada with Christie Lites and our paths crossed often. My last occasion to see Bob was at LDI in 2019 and we had dinner together and reminisced about all the good times we had. He was so proud and happy to be a grandfather and spoke or showed me pictures often of his grandchildren. I am sorry for their loss of such a loving Grandfather.
Goodbye, my friend. I will miss you deeply and I will remember you well. Your positive outlook and bright smile. Your let's do it attitude and commitment to helping others. Your relentless forechecking and occasional snipes. Your leadership, smarts, and involvement - in your biz, on a board, on a team, or at the round table at the club. The humour, care, generosity and love of family and friends underlying it all. To coin your phrase "ALL PRO". Karen, thanks for sharing Bobby with us. Deepest condolences to you, Steph, Ryan and extended family.
My condolences goes out to Karen, Stephanie, Ryan and the Family. Over the last 18 years Bob was the guys who gave me a chance in Sales when I had no experience and passed on his wealth of knowledge and experience to me as he did to countless others. You will be missed but never forgotten, on behalf of myself and my entire Family....Thank You for everything!

A more solid man you will not find. RIP Bob - will miss you at the club and on the course.
Among a long list of talents, Bob was the ambassador to the Canadian theatrical lighting industry that encouraged those of us on the sound side of the industry to become involved with CITT in the first place. His gracious and open approach to everything and every person was truly admirable. I can call him a friend but am honestly jealous of all of you that spent more time in his unique aura. A remarkable human being that will be missed but not forgotten.

I first met Bob in Buffalo many years ago at the Balmy Beach Open Golf Tournament. Ed Caterer introduced me to Bob. Bob introduced me to barefoot golf. I put my shoes on after the first fairway! Bob was unusual … unusually kind, unusually generous, and unusually helpful, to everyone. He was a terrific guy and I miss him Rest In Peace Bob.
This news comes as such a shock. Bob had too much life in him to ever stop living, especially at such a young age. In the hockey room, anywhere, or anyone you'd find yourself with alongside Bob; he was the life. The kindest, funniest person you could know. He made anything feel possible and attainable. A real inspiration, a great friend, and teammate like no other, he is greatly missed. I don't want to imagine the feel of loss Ryan and his family must feel at this time, because the sadness from the loss of Bob even from knowing him a relatively short time is heavy. My deepest condolences.
It is always difficult to say goodbye to a mite that we have loved for the last time. Hi BOB one day we will meet and meet again, he rests in peace. Fabio

We were both blessed to work along side and be friends with Bob and will miss his smile and humour. Our deepest condolences to Karen and Mark in these times. Bob will be thought of every time we see the sun setting on the water.
My deepest condolences to Bob’s family and many friends. He will be dearly missed by the industry and unimaginably missed by those closer in his orbit. He was legendary for his charisma and his caring. I was lucky enough to work with Bob for a couple of decades and am better for having that as a cherished part of my career. He brought good energy, good vision, and a love of fun to every situation we faced. I’ll miss him and I wish I had just one more chance to go into battle with the great… Bob Johnson. Rest In Peace Bob. Your friend and colleague! Richard McDonald

We would like to offer our sincere condolences to Karen, Ryan, Stephanie and family. Bob had a beautiful spirit and it was a privilege knowing him. Bob was always gracious with his time and resources in supporting BBC Hockey and the Club itself. We were touched in seeing Bob’s face light up when talking about his family, especially his granddaughters. It was truly special to observe how proud he was of his family. The world was a better place with Bob in it. The magnitude of grief felt is a true reflection of how much he was loved.
Our condolences to all of the Johnston family in their tragic loss of Bob and to the entertainment industry, he made a tremendous impact. He joined Rosco Canada during our first year of operation, one of his many talents was the ability of being able to read documents, upside down on a producers desk! We look back over those past years and wonder if it was to soon to call a wrap
I was shocked to hear of Bob's passing from my brother Dave. I am so sorry for you, the kids and grand kids loss. He leaves behind quite a legacy judging from the reaction. I will try to get in touch when I get back up to Toronto. Again, we are so sorry.
I first met Bob in the 80's when i was at Lee Filters, we were young guys in the industry still learning the ropes, Bob has always been so kind to me, over the many years i have known him. he was a great guy, I will always remember him with great fondness. My sincere condolences to all of Bobs family at this very sad time. Ralph Young
My deepest sympathies to Karen, Bob's children and grandchildren. Bob was a most valued and trusted friend and colleague. Bob led with his heart, his honesty and persuasive charisma. Our friendship spanned over 30 years and in that time he always held his family and friends in the highest regard. He was also a champion for his colleagues and for his business partners and associates. He leaves behind a tremendous legacy in his professional life, countless friends and a wonderful family. Bob's was a life well lived and he will be greatly missed.
Caramba Bob! Too soon, too young too fast. This is so sad, you were so strong, so proud of your life and especially, so proud of your family, your grand children. I do not know them but it is like I did know them, you've been talking to me about them often with a smile starting from your left ear to you right one. And I think about them, it is so difficult to face this huge hole left by the departure of a loved one. My thoughts goes to you, Bob's beloved ones.
Karen, Ryan and Stephanie. My heart goes out to you. Bob was a great man and will be greatly missed. I so clearly see that glow in his eyes and smile on his face whenever he spoke of his kids. He loved you and so many people in the behind the scenes entertainment industry loved Bob.

Karen and family so sorry for your loss- Bob will be sorely missed - rest in peace Bob
Karen and Family, My deepest condolences for your tragic loss. I have so many fond memories of Bob that it's difficult to know where to begin. How about this for a start: when Judy and I decided to get married in the Catholic Church after originally having had a protestant ceremony, Bob agreed to be my best man. He was indeed the BEST man. There was no one else I wanted. I also remember him staying at our house in Long Beach in the same room as my baby daughter. She would laugh and throw her pacifier at him. We had so many laughs together during those years when White's was the rep for Colortran. We also did a lot of business. I dare say we learned a lot from each other. Bob was a leader, and a force of nature in sales. His energy knew no bounds. He was smart and highly strategic. Yet what I remember most, is his love for you and Ryan and Steph. There is no question in my mind that the family was central to everything he did. The family would come up in our conversations very frequently. He lived for you and the kids. Know that Judy and I will carry the thoughts of Bob in our hearts as long as we live. The family will remain in our prayers, and and we rejoice at having known him. Peace be with you, and God bless you. Paul and Judy Sherbo
We just found out about Bob's passing and are devastated by the news. We have known Bob and his family for 17 years at Knights Corner and will never forget how kind and thoughtful he was. We have so many amazing memories together that we will cherish forever. Sending our love and deepest condolences. May he rest in peace, it was an honour knowing Bob.
My sincere condolences and prayers to the family and all his friends. So many of us that had the privilege of knowing Bob through the industry knew very quickly what an amazing man he was. We all learned quickly about the love and pride he had for his family. Sharing pics of his adorable grand babies and telling stories. Making sure everyone around him had the opportunity to shine and always taking the party to that level of greatness you would never forget. He truly was “All pro” and will always be missed and never forgotten. Rest In Peace Bob.
Dear Karen, Stephanie, Ryan and family: We are sending our prayers and deepest sympathy to you all. Such a huge loss. Bob helped me make my way into the lighting business 30 years ago and we've been friends ever since. He will truly be missed. Rosemary and I have such fond memories of our visits and laughs together, and especially that wonderful day in Lunenburg. I was privileged to be welcomed into your home on many occasions, and I will treasure those memories forever. Sending our love and kind wishes to you all. Alfred and Rosemary
Karen and Family, Pete and I are heartbroken for you. Bob was a great guy and we looked forward to seeing him when he came to the trailer. I hope that all your cherished memories get you through the rough days. Please accept our sincere condolences, and know we are thinking of you.❤❤

My deepest condolences to you Karen, Ryan, and Stephanie. I've known Bob since 1990 and always looked for to meeting up with him in person be it at a CITT event or LDI or when buying yet more gear from him. I loved his concern for everyone in our line of work and for what he could provide to help us educate and do our art. A true giant of a man and always so proud of his family and especially his grand kids. He will be missed. A Donation has been made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation in his name.
Sincere condolences from the Loader family to the Johnston family and friends. We were very sorry to learn about the passing of Bob. Our deepest condolences to you Karen, Ryan, and Stephanie. I met Bob in the early 90's and he was a giant in my eyes then. I was fortunate to be able to work with him for the past 17 years and call him my friend. He was an inspiration for me as a mentor and helped me greatly. Robin still shakes her head and laughs when I answer her questions with one of Bob's famous sayings, " how long is a string ?". The influence he had in our industry will be his legacy. RIP Bob.

Deepest condolences to you Karen, Stephanie, Ryan, and family. I had first heard about Bob from wayback in the late 80's. I was working across the street from CSP at Boardwalk Motion Pictures and his name kept popping up whenever we needed gear for our music videos. I have always counted myself fortunate to learn from several builders of the entertainment industry in Toronto. Bob was one of those builders. Years later, I was introduced to him and instantly liked his way of doing things. Bob was without a doubt one of the largest personalities I have ever met. His handshake was crushing, his smile and laugh genuine and his spirit generous. Bob was a true leader who lead by example, was not afraid to see others shine and supported and guided myself and many others without asking for anything back. I count myself very lucky to have worked for Bob the past few years. He was a great boss, a mentor and a friend. His guidance was invaluable. No matter how busy, he always made time. I have and will continue to say to myself regularly, "What would Bob do?" He made think about a problem from a different angle and made me better at what I do. Really missing him. One of a kind.
Deepest condolences to you Karen, Stephanie, Ryan, and family. Bob was an icon that - over an epic career - influenced great change in the Canadian theatrical entertainment industry. He influenced the lives of many whom will keep with them and remember their own personal anecdotes that instill the epic personality that was Bob. He will not be forgotten...
Karen, Ryan, Stephanie and family, my deepest condolences. I have know Bob for over 40 years and have worked closely with him for close to 30 years. From our early days together at Canadian Staging Projects, than on to William F. White in the 90's and currenty with Christie Lites from 2003 to present. He truly is a lengend in the Entertainment Industry and was a great mentor to myself teaching me everything I know about sales. I have many fond memories of Bob that I will cherish forever - he will truely be missed by all. Bob left us far too soon and may he Rest in Peace.
To Karen, Ryan, Stephanie, Mark and the entire Johnston extended family, Tracy and I offer our best thoughts and sympathy... The loss of a man like Bobby is doubly, triply poignant when you think about all the lives that he touched over his amazing lifetime. In the case of Robert (he called me Kenneth and Kenny, both of which only my Mother ever got away with) he touched the lives of so many of us, it’s beyond math. Someone mentioned to me today Bob’s ‘isims’. Priceless gifts forever. Others have spoken of his handshake. Feared but cherished. He challenged us by example and by direct approach. He supported us as colleagues, teammates, and friends. And he gave more of himself for his fellow man and for his cherished family than any one person can ever aspire to offer. Bob left us too soon, but he has left us with memories, wisdom and love. He will Rest in Peace and we are the better for having known him.
I met Bob, when I had my first job in Toronto in the late ’70s, I was 21, and Bob must have been 16 at CSP (Canadian Staging Projects). We pulled cable together for a show I was helping with. I still remember that time thing how cool this was. A few years later, Bob dropped off a very expensive lighting console, just handed this to me and said, “Try it it might be what you need.” I was pretty blown away, but that was Bob, knowing people. Oh, and the theatre did buy the console. Bob worked tirelessly for the theatre industry, he and I are founding members of CITT. We spent many meetings together followed by a trip to the pub afterward. Bob became noted president of the organization, and for much longer than he thought he would be. Last story for now. I invited Bob to come and see one of the last live shows before the pandemic hit. A little theatre in Port Hope was doing Chicago and the whole building was humming with excitement and fun. Bob heard that the building was in need of a lighting network, and a few months later one arrived. We could not tell a soul how it got there. The last time we talked, a few weeks ago, Bob was telling me how fortunate he was to be with his family here in Cobourg. He has been a giant, in the entertainment industry. Feared and loved, and always an honest man.
Dear Karen & Family. Sending my Love and Condolences to you in this sad time. Bob was a very jolly guy and waiting to help out with what was needed at the time. Rest in Peace Bob you will be missed.

Our deepest sympathy to your family, Karen Bob was a great neighbor, we enjoyed frequent chats! Always a smile on his face. He will be greatly missed.
Don and I would like to send our condolences to the entire Johnston family. Thinking of you all during this difficult time.
Dear Karen, Ryan and Stephanie...Bob and I were very good friends and I had so much fun with him when we worked together at Matthews Group/Hollywood Rentals/ESS...I will never forget all our trips together specially the one when I took him to my home town, Lisbon in Portugal...I will miss him a lot!!! We love you...Carlos
I had the pleasure to interact with Bob through all of the years of his business life. In so many ways, he brought a unique set of skills to his work. Primarily, it was the enthusiasm and excitement with which Bob approached every day doing the job he loved. Like the other focus of his life, at work he began each day in effect taking the ice at full speed and drove himself throughout the competition! He made us all better at what we did. Now, in retrospect, I realize how fortunate I was to have known Bob…..
My heart goes out to you Karen and your family. Be comforted by the knowledge that we never lose anyone we love. Bob was a man of substance. His loss is inconceivable and unfathomable still I’m sure. I had the privilege of knowing him and I will miss him. My condolences to you and your family.
To Karen and Family our sincere condolences. The life the myth the legend all of the above he was a mentor but most a friend. He truly couldn’t speak more then a sentence then talking about his family and will truly miss his stories about the industry but more about the family and friends. He always made time and mentor where he could will always be grateful for hiring me and being part of the Christie / Bob family. I would raise a glass nod and smile as what he would want to b shy and if to fade to black stand up and let them know a light was lit. You will be missed my friend but never forgotten Gary Sywake and Family
We are very sad. Bob, the ultimate gentleman, always making sure people felt included and welcome. He always took special interest in our lives and particularly our daughter Tenny. First person to jump up and ask if we needed assistance with Tenny’s mobility device etc.. We witnessed his incredible love & dedication for his family. We have lost a good one. Karen, Stephanie, Ryan & Mark please accept our condolences.
I will never forget the first time I met Bob or the last time or any of the times in-between. My biggest surprise was running into him at The Balmy (I actually heard him first). What a great and pleasant surprise. Away from the business he was even better. Bob was like that, unforgettable. Our industry has lost one of it’s true friends who will always be remembered and greatly missed. I didn’t know him as well as many but I will miss him. My sincere condolences go out to all his family.
To Karen, Ryan, Stephanie and Mark: sending you my deepest condolences as you mourn Bob’s passing and celebrate his wonderful life. His love and joy lives on in each of you.
Willemine an I send you our deepest condolences and love. There are too many words to place in a small space to express adequately, the MANY small ways Bob has affected and influenced my personal and professional life for the better. I am grateful to have know him, and I shall never forget him or the family.
Karen, Steph and Ryan (Cubby) I am deeply sorry for your shattering loss. I hope that Bob's strength and bright light will continue to guide you through this difficult time. When I met Bob 30 years ago I was just a young man that was looking for a temporary stop. Well, after a few conversations with Bob he had other plans that would turn this stop that I had made into a journey. I guess you could say Bob was the compass that corrected or reset my course. I think that Bob, whether he knew it or not was a compass for many in his career and private life. Over the years I have learned much from Bob and we have shared many laughs and even had some spirited jousts. I feel very grateful that I met Bob, honored to have known him and now very saddened to see him move on... perhaps someone else now has plans for you Bob. Here's to wherever your next journey takes you... Cheers Buddy.
Karen and family - Bob’s unexpected passing will undoubtedly leave a space noted and felt by many. Condolences to all.
It is difficult to imagine that I won't again be welcomed with that big smile and warm hug. Bobby J, a man with a huge heart and a generous spirit has diminished our world by leaving it. My heart is with you, Karen and family
Karen and family....words cannot adequately express both my sadness and empathy for your loss. Bobby J was a truly wonderful man; he embraced life with an energy and passion that was admired by all that knew him - I will miss him greatly.
Peeter Oolup Dec 4, 2021 I would like to extend my heartfelt condolences to Karen and the rest of Bob’s family. It is not often that you find a person about which literally no one has a bad word to say. Bob was indeed that person. Humble, personable, compassionate, giving, warm-hearted…. Bob was all of that. I will miss him greatly and feel honoured and blessed to have been his friend. Rest In Peace
It was a very sad time indeed, when I heard of Bob's passing. Bob was always welcoming and treated Theresa and I like family. I had the pleasure of watching Bob come into his own, when seeing him welcome a new grandchild into the family. Bob you were one of a kind, and I will always cherish the memories that you helped to create with me and my family.
Christine and I extend our sincere sympathy to Karen and family. Bob was one of those rare individuals whose presence made every occasion better. His enthusiastic approach to life was infectious. He will be sadly missed.
My deepest condolences to Karen, Bob’s family and friends. No matter how intense Bob would be about work or sports when discussing his family, you would watch the smile grow, the body relax and you can expect 20 minutes on the subject. His family was his joy. I met Bob over 25 years ago and he welcomed me into Canada with open arms. We would fight, laugh, make deals, have meals and in the end shake hand as partners. In lighting Bob was always trying to be two steps ahead of everyone else and he always defended his co-workers, always! I wouldn’t doubt even now, wherever he is, that he’s trying to negotiate a better deal. Bob was bigger than life and he walked through it like he owned it. He had a big smile, loud voice and strong handshake. And we are all better to have walked with him. Now is a time when legends are born, when all the “Bob stories” become elaborated and enriched. He would like that. Will I miss him, yes? Forget him, no. Rest in Peace Brother.
Really sorry to hear this news, the family will be in my prayers.
It's such a deep loss for Karen and his family, and also to the hundreds of friends, colleagues, and industry folks who had the pleasure to have known and loved him. He was a true leader and well respected friend and co-worker for those of us who worked with him over the years. He left us far too soon and his absence will be acutely felt for a very long time. He was definitely one of a kind and when he was made they broke the mould. Love and condolences to his family and those who knew him. Rest in peace, buddy.

I first met Bob in the Pickering Fastball League. It was clearly evident the respect both his teammates and opponents had for him. He played the game hard, but fairly. Gave no quarter and expected none. He was so easy to talk to and always made you feel like you were an old friend. I was both shocked and saddened to hear of his passing. The world lost a good one way too soon. My deepest condolences.
I had the great pleasure to call him a friend and teammate. From playing against him but mostly playing with him with the Old boys and our forever memories in Europe. Bobby. You are a true great man. Kind and always asking how You are. I will miss your smile and your always kind words. “No further questions” Up the beach. Your next shift awaits. Mike Leonard and family.
