Thomas "Tommy" Hubert Bulger

February 2, 1927 - October 24, 2021

We are sad to announce the passing of Thomas ”Tommy” Hubert Bulger, peacefully in his sleep at the age of 94 in his room at The Golden Plough Lodge.
Born February 2nd in 1927, he was the third of eleven children of Joseph Bulger and Rose Bulger (nee Curran) of Cobourg and the only one born on Ground Hog’s Day.
Tom is predeceased by his wife of 62 years Ruth (nee Jones) and his siblings Joe (Helen), Teresa, John (Betty), Rosemary (Jack), Eileen (Edmund), Frankie, Dolores, Dolan and Robert. They are all welcoming him with open arms, singing old Irish tunes and drinking good wine. He and Ruthie are jiving while his beloved dog Dusty is waiting patiently to go to the Marsh. He is survived by younger sister Ann and Brother-in-law Tony, as well as his best girl Maggie.
Tom will be missed dearly by the “Magnificent Seven” Robert (Karen), Brian (Shannon), Colleen (Ken), Mike (Cathy), Nancy (Mike), Carolyn and Anne (Dave), as well as his grandchildren Sadie (Jenelle), Ryan (Liza), Jay (Lydia), Thomas (Laura), Sierra (Kalvin), Katie, Jack, Adam (Steve), Russell, Melinda, Mason, Colin, Kelly and his great grandchildren Sienna, Charlotte, Desia, Meyer, Emerson, Connor, Ella, and a lucky 7th to be arriving shortly. He will also be fondly remembered by his large extended family, including the many “adoptees”.
Tom, known to most as “Grampa”, worked most of his life as an electrician at Houdaille and then General Motors, but when not working, put most of his talents into fixing every appliance in the house. In his spare time Tom was an avid fisherman, hunter, golfer, hockey player and coach. Always the life of the party, Tom never missed a social gathering or a chance to make a bad joke and laugh loudly.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt “thank you” to all the staff of the Golden Plough Lodge for their compassionate care and making sure that he won at Bingo each week. A visitation will be held at MacCoubrey Funeral Home 30 King St. E., Cobourg on Saturday October 30th from 11 am to 1:30 pm
A gathering of family and friends is scheduled for Saturday, October 30th at 2:00 pm at the Mausoleum in Saint Michael’s Cemetery on Burnham Street in Cobourg. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to KidSport (c/o Northumberlandsportscouncil.ca).

Colleen, Ken and as best put, The Magnificent Seven.. My heart goes out to all of you when a loved one passes. You will have memories to cherish of your dad, and knowing he is with Ruth now, can put you at ease. My memories from high school years with Colleen showed me what a family of love is like. There was always positive energy and fun at the Bulger home. Everyone take from that and carry it on. Much LOVE to everyone as you go forward. Be strong !

Claude Damiani - October 29, 2021

Two memories come to mind from the many years I have known Tom. Entering our first year of university, Tom helped Brian, Ed, and I move into our new apartment in London. As we were loading my parents' old trunk into the truck, Tom quipped 'What have you got in there, rocks !?!' In the late seventies, a bunch of us would gather at the 3rd marsh to play shinny hockey. It was FREEZING cold. Wearing his vintage 1940's leather skates, Tom would literally dance around the ice, leaving the young guys flatfooted and amazed. Rest in peace Mr Bulger
