Joseph Alexander Kenneth Greer

October 30, 1975 - October 5, 2021

For Joseph Greer, 45

We are deeply saddened to report the passing of our beloved brother Joseph Alexander Kenneth Greer on October 5, 2021.

Joe was born younger brother to Benjamin Greer and was the 2nd son to Samuel and Heather Greer (nee: Ledgerwood) on October 30, 1975. The marriage was not the happily ever after both Sam and Heather had hoped for. Shortly after the birth of 3rd child (Leanna) it ended thereafter in divorce.

Joe’s life may have been cut short but during his time here he was loved and cherished.

Heather re-married and husband Roman Malanczyj “Dad” loved Joe as a son equal to their two biological children of the marriage – Danilo and Maria.

Joe was a creative character from the get go, born with a large spirit and equally large gifts. Joe’s spirit, laughter, truths and worldly views could capture an audience for both great debate and pure entertainment. He was head strong and had a strong moral compass. He tried to do what was right over what was easy. Growing up, this included Joe taking the blame for actions not solely his own and through out his life, he always spoke his truth and encouraged others to do the same. Joe was recognized to have gifts beyond the average and was encouraged to skip grades in school, offers he declined. Alongside Dad, he built a soap box for boy scouts, he enjoyed the outdoors (many camping trips) and physical fitness. Joe also had a commitment to his friends and his social world at an early age. He kept our parents busy with his interests in sport including enrollment and travel for swimming, orienteering, hockey, lacrosse and soccer. When Joe got his license, he could be seen driving the large family van “big red kahuna” around Port Hope and collecting half the soccer team for our games, practices and tournaments.

Joe read a lot and he was truly gifted in many ways. A dedication to friends meant Joe maintained a social life to which he would say, “school is getting in the way”, school eventually did interfere. Joe was involved in the music industry for a period of time and he continued with creative pursuits. He endured challenges and equipped himself with strategies determined to outsmart and survive against social norms. This included experimentations, with diet (from vegan to ice cream only) and survival (disappearing acts from the family home). Joe did endure some hardships and stayed true to his life choices.

After the unfortunate passing of Joe’s Mom Heather, Roman re-married and the family grew again to include Step-Mom Patricia and her two adult daughters Celeste and Michelle.

We always looked forward to Joe’s impromptu returns to our family in his adult years. None of us can say ‘Joe’ and refrain from an emerging smile of a memory, time or a tale. He was the heartbeat of our gatherings, a conversationalist with a silver tongue and a treasure in our family home. We trust that Joe is continuing to entertain and has found peace.

He is survived and maintained in loving memory by Dad, Roman (Pat) and his siblings Celeste (Shawn), Michelle (the late Jason), Ben (Christine), Leanna (Trevor), Danilo (Seema), Maria (Kyle). Aunts: Vera, Darlene, Nancy, Charlotte Uncles: John, Jim, Bruce and many cousins.

Joe is pre-deceased by his parents Samuel Greer and Heather Malanczyj. He is also pre deceased by his grandparents George & Donna Ledgerwood, Ken and Joan Greer.

A private service for immediate family will be held at a later date.
