It is with great sadness that the family of John Stubbs announces his passing, at age 95. Beloved husband of Heather, loving father to seven children, John (Stephanie), Margaret (Ron), Helen (Peter), Rob, Bill(deceased), David (Anne), Sarah (Alex), 13 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
John was known for his positive attitude and calm demeanour. He was a long-time student of ancient Chinese art, calligraphy, poetry and spiritual philosophy. He dedicated many years to the interpretation and translation of Loa Tzu’s Tao Te Ching.
John was a talented artist, well known around Castleton and Cobourg, contributing to the artistic community in many ways.
There will be a Celebration of Life for John on Sunday, September 26, at 1:00, at the Cobourg Columbus Hall, 232 Spencer St E, in Coburg. In keeping with COVID protocols there will only be 100 fully vaccinated people allowed in the hall at a time with about 40 family members in attendance, so an email to Heather (hgstubbs@gmail.com) will allow her to make a list of attendees in order to monitor the numbers. Time after the service has been arranged for friends to drop by the hall with their best wishes and condolences. Unfortunately, refreshments are not allowed because of restrictions, and masks must be worn at all times.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the SONG Program, Sounds of the Next Generation, a music education program for under-served children. John was a strong supporter of SONG, and Heather volunteered as accompanist for seven years.

Thinking of John (Jack) brings back warm memories of growing up in Baie d'Urfe and the big backyards we shared. I was young but had a sense that he was a spiritual man and of course an artist. We still have and treasure one of his paintings. Condolences and hugs to the beautiful Stubbs clan. He will be missed.

Heather… Marion and I send our regrets at the news of John’s passing. During the years that we lived at Ryerson, we appreciated his artistic talents but also his coffee talents. He was a skilled craftsman but as much as we enjoy good coffee, we lacked the patience and originality that he showed for producing refined coffee. John’s friendly smile and patience was always appreciated and we know that he will be missed by his family and friends. We send our. sympathy to you.
Hi Heather: It was a surprise to hear the news about John. Keep the good memories close to your heart and you shall find peace. Sue and Joe La Berge
Heather my thoughts and prayers are with you. John was such a welcoming man and gentle beyond words. His smile and friendliness were felt everywhere he went. Much love and hugs. You were a joyful couple and I know he will be with you always
